The Caper

Reasoning:

The reason I am a little obsessive about this is because I'm lonely and also the fact
that I really have nothing better to do.

SOLVED

Origin:

On the morning of Wed. July 11, I received a message on my cell phone from the night
before from a 'Briteny', who was "just calling to see what's going on" and what I
"was gonna be up to this weekend". This perplexed me because:
  • I don't know any Briteny's
  • I did not talk to any Britney's that Saturday nite
  • I really can't ever remember a girl calling me to see what I was doing that weekend,
let alone a girl calling me in general.

    Evidence:

Press the play button to here the message
The message: Tues. July 10, 2001 11:51pm Hey Carl, it's Britney, just calling to see what's going on, the night kinda ended quick the other night at Mike's
and I was just wanted to see what you were gonna be up to this weekend, gimmie a call when you get a
chance, alright, my number is...(deep breath) 884 (semi-long/confused pause) 48 (short pause) 21, thanks.

    Suspects:

At this point no one is completely ruled out as a suspect but most are eliminated
for one reason or another. Hear is a list of everyone I saw at the party:
Amanda Alonso Ashley Armstrong Adam Bishop Chris Blaze Rob Brindley Angela Buzzetti
Vanessa Castillo Jeremy Castilucci Chad Leon Mike Levin Sarah Maslar Adam Morejon
Emily Naglich Trevor Perry Sam Ritchie Chris Sarquis Chantel Torres Briteny Thomas
+other people I did not know nor talk to thus giving them no possible motive

    Investigation/Theories:

Theory one: Fake phone call to get my hopes up and then make me sad (which has been achieved) Theory two: Real phone call where there was a simple miscommunication
  • So far I have one main suspect, basically the only one with a motive (at least as far
I have established). That motive is based on the phone call being a joke, which it may
    or may not be.
  • The obvious person after looking at the suspects would be Britney, but I have already
    cleared her as a suspect.
  • The # given on the voice mail was a wrong # and is registered to a last name Cusmano
who lives around Waters and Sheldon.
  • 'Briteny' did not seem to know her phone # very well as indicated by the pauses.
  • In the message however there is no discernable background noise which would
lead one to believe that 'Briteny' was alone.
  • At Mike's I do not remember talking to anyone that I do not know nor giving out my cell
phone #, I know it is not difficult to obtain my # and it would also lead me to believe that
my # was obtained thru a 3rd party based on the 3 day delay in the phone call being made.
  • To me the voice sounds like I've heard it before but I can get no further than that,
plus I may just be paranoid.
  • I do not remember ever knowing any Britney's nor being introduced to one ever.
  • I have also gathered some other evidence based on these theories as well as others in
which I am not prepared to release those findings at this given time.

    Conclusion:

I have come to one of two conclusions: #1 if the phone call was fake, in which I believe
it was, I know who is behind it. #2 if it's real (very unlikely) then oh well, really not
much I can do about it.
