Jumps Triple
Salchow- This is one of the two
easiest jumps. When Sarah does it, she takes off of a right back inside
edge. Sarah Hughes is a left handed skater which means she jumps and spins
clockwise, which isn't as common (Rudy Galindo and Todd Eldredge are CW
skaters too.) She lands on a left outside edge, opposite of the takeoff
leg, as all jumps do. Triple
Toe Loop- The other one of the
easiest two jumps. Sarah takes off the left back inside edge. In this
jump, a toe pick is used. Sarah picks her right foot in the ice. Double
Axel- This jumps takes off a
forward outside edge and lands on the other foot. According to Peggy
Fleming, Sarah gets good spring is this jump. This jump is hard because in
the air, the skater has to switch positions and has an extra rotation. A
single is 1 1/2 rotations, a double 2 1/2 rotations etc. Triple
Loop- One of the three harder
jumps. I think Sarah does this one exceptionally well. She does two in a
row. A triple loop triple loop combination! It's the combination that was
first landed in ladies' competition by Tara Lipinski. The triple loop is
the hardest to put as the second jump of any combination. Sarah's triple
loop triple loop combination is the third hardest triple/triple. When
doing a triple loop triple loop, you'll notice the skater doesn't put
his/her foot down to go up for the second loop. The second triple loop is
doesn't entirely of one edge and one foot! Triple
Flip- The second hardest jump
that the ladies do. It takes off a right back inside edge like the
Salchow. Sarah's picking foot is her left foot. This jump is hard because
you have to land on the foot you picked with. Triple Lutz- The hardest triple most Senior Ladies do. This one takes off of a back outside edge, like the loop, but uses a toe pick. Sarah's toe picking foot is her left, like the flip. The reason this jump is so difficult is because the outside edge it takes off of heads the opposite direction you want to turn in the air. Spins: Camel-
This is done in an "arabesque" position, with the free leg
extended behind about parallel to the ice. When Sarah does this on her
right left, she's doing a forward camel, when she does it with her left
leg on the ice, she's doing a back camel. When she jumps into a back
camel, its' called a flying camel. Catch foot-
This a spin where Sarah pulls her blade up with her opposite hand. Sarah
does hers out of a camel. To see an animation of her catch foot click here. Sit- This is a spin where Sarah dips into a low sitting position and stretches her free leg in front of her. When Sarah does this spin on her right foot on the ice, it's a forward sit, when it's on the left foot, it's a back sit, when she jumps into one, it's a flying sit.
