In the November issue of the Skating magazine, Sarah was mentioned in an article talking about how Robin Wagner kicked off the Skaters' fund campaign.

Sarah was mentioned in the October Skating magazine. It was in an article about Skate America. Here's the excerpt on her: "...as is 14-year-old sensation Sarah Hughes. Hughes placed fourth at the 1999 U.S. Championships, but took advantage of her berth to the World Championships with an impressive seventh-place finish." 

Another mention of her in this issue was in an article looking at the upcoming 2000 season. Here's the excerpt: "Sarah Hughes (Great Neck, N.Y.) turned in one of the strongest first-year performances by a U.S. skater at the 1999 World Championships. Hughes' seventh-place finish proved to everyone that this 14-year-old could compete with the best in the world. She also claimed a silver medal in the 1999 World Jr. Championships. Among her many highlights last season was a head-to-head win over the legendary Katarina Witt in the 1999 Hershey's Kisses Challenge."

Sarah was mentioned in the August/September issue of the Skating magazine.  

ISU Ruling Helps Young U.S. Skaters

Due to the rescheduling of the 2000 World Junior Championships from November to March, questions arose as to whether Sarah Hughes and Naomi Nari Nam would be able to qualify for the 2000 World Championships also in March, regardless of their finish at Junior Worlds. Both skaters are under the age limit of 15 for the World Championships. 

Under ISU rules, the top three finishers in each discipline at Junior Worlds are allowed to compete at the World (Senior) Championships, regardless of age, if their country chooses to send them. 

On June 22, the ISU issued a rules interpretation that would allow both Nam and Hughes (and other underage skaters) to qualify for the 2000 Worlds (Senior).

According to the interpretation, the three best-placed skaters at the 1999 World Juniors (held in Zagreb, Croatia, in November 1998) are permitted to enter the 2000 (Senior) World Championships, scheduled for next March in Brisbane, Australia. Under that rule, Hughes, the 1999 World Junior silver medalist already qualifies.

Furthermore, the three best-placed skaters at the 2000 World Juniors (scheduled for March 2000 in Oberstdorf, Germany) are also permitted to enter the 2000 (Senior) Worlds -- giving Nam a chance to qualify. The 21-day roster submission deadline for the World Championships will be waived for theses medal winners.

Both Nam, 1999 U.S. silver medalist, and Hughes, the 1999 U.S. fourth place finisher, would also have to finish in the top three at the 2000 U.S. Championships.
