I must say, I didn't watch the majority of this show so I really wasn't too familiar with it. I saw a bit of the 1st episode, parts of a few other eps, and then watched the finale. So here are just some observations I made from that and from what I have read about this show.
- Seems to me like this is an attempt to make women look shallow. Perhaps, the creators are guys who are so bitter at how they have been treated by women that this is their weird way of getting revenge. It's highly likely if there was a similar show where a good looking guy had to choose from not-so-hot women, the guy would be on the first bus out of town as soon as he saw them. But they want you to look at women and think that they would never date a guy based on personality & not looks. In most cases, it's true...but there are some exceptions. They set her up to look shallow in this way. But then you have all of the guys drooling over her and commenting on her looks and not her personality. The street goes both ways.
- Melana was on an earlier reality show on NBC called Meet My Folks. Hmmm...anyone smell a fame-whore?
- According to reports, Melana ran off the set & asked to speak to producers when she first saw the guys. There was a back-up girl ready in hair and make-up in case Melana decided she wanted to quit. You can't really blame her too much but that reaction does seem a little bit drastic. I mean, running away just because the guys aren't models is rather shallow in some ways. True, she might have been tricked into thinking this was going to be another Bachelorette but there is no need to run away. She doesn't have to date or marry the guys she picks in the end so why not just take it as it comes and have fun with it? She did stick it out eventually but more than likely, she did so because she didn't want to look bad or she was paid.
- I've seen average and below average guys with beautiful girls many times in real life. It does happen. But in most cases, there is a reason behind it.
- The majority of the guys on this show are below average. If they are considered average, then I must be a stud!
- I love how the guys talk about having feelings for her and being able to see themselves with her after knowing her for only 1 day! How desperate are these guys?? They say that she is their "type". Of course she is...she fits the mold for what most guys want, physically speaking. She's my type too. All she really is to these guys is a prize and "trophy" woman. It's becoming a trend in these reality dating shows and it is really pathetic.
- Some of the guys are obvious plants. They have probably either been paid or coached on what to say and how to act. Or even all of the above. You have an aspiring actor being (pretending?) a complete geek, which is probably his audition in his mind. Then you have Zach being the jerk of the bunch. All seems kind of set up.
- Bringing in the 3 pretty boys to compete with the Joes completely destroyed the entire concept of this show. It is another attempt at forcing this girl into looking shallow. They want to see if she will pick a good looking guys over the Joes. Yes, it adds a twist and some extra drama. And that's all the people who made this show really care about...ratings.
- The whole "fat suit" angle was kind of retarded. Melana put on a fat suit and was made up to look around 250-300 pounds. Then she pretends to be Melana's fat cousin, Danielle, to see how the guys will react. A couple of the AJs made comments in another room and she saw the footage of it. Then she revealed herself by peeling off the fat in front of the guys. I don't know. It seems as though it would be rather simple to tell it was her when you are standing like 5 feet from her. But I guess these guys are nitwits. They talk about her when they know they are on a reality show with cameras everywhere...really dumb.
- As for the finale. Adam, the final AJ, turns out to be a millionaire. Yeah, that is so average. And I'm so sure the show wasn't rigged so that the last AJ just happened to be a millionaire. Retards. So now, Melana is even more screwed with her final choice. Either she picks the pretty boy and looks shallow or she picks the dorky millionaire and looks like a gold digger. The pretty boy, Jason, was a complete rockhead with no personality. After the show, Melana said that his personality was edited out....sure it was. The only time he said anything interesting was when he was being an ass. He told Melana he was going to get her drunk and then use her. He didn't even know how to play checkers!! And as for the dork? Adam decided he was going to use every single dating trick he knew of to try and woo her. Simply put, he tried waaaaay too hard. He even went and did a sorta creepy thing where he made an entire drink list at a restaurant about Melana. If you were going to propose to someone you had known a long time, that would have been sweet. But for a girl you barely know, it's kinda weird. He was also a little too jealous and possessive. But he did provide some comedy when he set the dog he had bought for Melana on fire. LoL.
The final decision surprised me a little bit. The pretty boy was chosen over the rich AJ. That's ok, I guess, except it ruined the whole point of the show. She said it tore her up inside to make the choice but she didn't look too upset when she stuck her tongue down Jason's throat minutes later. I found it funny that a show made for the average, dorky-ass bum ends and the average guy can't even win. However, considering job and money, Jason, the pretty boy, was more average than Adam, the millionaire dork. But from the way it was set up, the whole average theme was more based on looks. Oh well. Beautiful girls don't go for dorks unless there is something extra in it for them like money or a big pickle. In this case, that wasn't enough to sway her. It just goes to show that shallow, vapid, pretty, materialistic people will always find each other.
Simply put, this girl is beautiful and doesn't have trouble finding guys in her ordinary life, and yet, she has been on 2 reality dating shows. That spells fame-whore to the 10th power. She wasn't ready for a committment...this was just her trying to extend her 15 minutes. She tried hard to hide her shallowness, like many attractive girls do, but it came out again in the end, as it always does. She had a physical attraction to Jason and loved to kiss him. That's pretty much all they had in common. They were like high school kids who are hot for each other, make out for a couple of weeks, and then break up. Physical attraction isn't enough to make a relationship work...that spark eventually dies out. And then, if there isn't more there, say, a personality, the relationship dies. Speaking of which....Mel and Jason split up shortly after. They didn't connect...they didn't even really date. They saw each other once or twice after the show was over. And then, according to rumors, Melana was hooking up with the jerk from the show, Zach. Makes sense. Girls will go after either the moronic pretty boy or the @$$hole. And as for the millionaire dork, Adam? He supposedly met a great girl after the show who he was serious with. But then he said he would be happy to do another dating show. Huh? If you are happily dating domeone, why would go do another dating show?? And thus, a 3rd edition of Average Joe starts in March with Adam choosing from women. Goes to show you that everyone on TV is brainless and loves to be in the spotlight.
