Chelsea are ready to kick Chris Sutton out of Stamford Bridge . Gianluca Vialli will give his £10 Million record signing until the end of Christmas to prove his worth at the club or make him available for transfer.
Vialli knows he may have to accept a loss on a player who has left him frustrated by scoring just 2 goals in 17 games since arriving from Blackburn in the summer. Even Chairman Ken Bates is starting to question the performance of the player who has at times looked out of his depth.
Now Sutton faces prospect of a new Millenium searching for another club unless he can turn his form on its head.
And he has just five games to save his Stamford Bridge skin. They are against Lazio in the Champions League on Tuesday, Hull in the FA Cup on Saturday followed by Leeds, Southampton and Sheffield Wednesday in the Premiership.
Vialli under pressure after Chelsea's Premiership challenge wilted with a 4-1 defeat at Sunderland yesterday, would hope to recoup at least £5 Million for Sutton
