Ormondville Station from the Makotuku end
On the left is one of a pair of wicket gates that were installed in 1901 to provide public access to the domain. Above it is the old Methodist Church. The photo was taken between 1909 and 1916.
The unknown sender of the postcard that is the source of this photo, had the postal address: Box 3. It was dated 26 August 1916. The letter on the reverse reads:
"Dear Annie, If all is well I will be going up home early next month and I want to call in and see your folk on the way. Would you mind letting me know the best way or means of getting out to their place. The man who drives for Mr Lehndorf has been away for a week's holiday, so we have been rather busy lately and this child has been working at the books all this afternoon - our half holiday. Did you get your strap? I guess I am about quits with Iola now. I commenced to go down there to see you 2 weeks ago today, but when I nearly got to Woodville it was raining too hard so I was compelled to turn back. Kind regards to all from yours sincerely - Alf. Luke 14.23, 2 Tim. 2.384."
This postcard was kindly loaned from the private collection of Merle Sneddon, of Levin, a retailer of early postcards.
Interestingly, this postcard, 'Wilsons 3357' proved to probably have been taken the same day as another well known photo of the station, shown below. That one is 'Wilson 3350.'
