Ormondville Station platform from the Makotuku end
The (stained) postcard of the Makotuku end of the station platform, was sent to Mr J.D. McCartney, Rly (Railway), Petone, and is postmarked 1912. The message on the reverse read:
"We are all doing OK up here. Terrible Smith still continues to ring them on. We all join in wishing you a Merry Xmas and happy New Year. - H.M.D."
Possibly 'H.M.D.' was the stationmaster, Hugh McDougall, who was at Ormondville between 1909 and 1913. If this is the case, then probably J.D. McCartney was a former staff member at the station. 'Terrible Smith' is an intriguing character, but is as yet unknown.
This postcard was kindly loaned from the private collection of Merle Sneddon, of Levin, a retailer of early postcards.
