A bone chilling sunless day in Rotorua, and Plains Rangers had four pool games of 40 minutes each.

First up were Tauranga Boys College, the second best secondary school team in New Zealand. It was an even affair with both teams playing good football. TBC grabbed the winner in the final minutes. TBC 1 Rangers 0.
Rangers then met Rotorua City's reserve team and controlled play. A powerful drive from Mark Thompson opened the scoring. Bas Overdevest then scored direct from a corner, though with the help of a number of defenders who got their own touches on it! Rangers 2, Rotorua City B 0.
The next test was Ngongotaha Reserves, who went on to win the plate section. A defensive error gave Ngongotaha a chance and they took it well. Bas Overdevest evened up the scores with an excellent half volley. However another defensive error paved the way for a 2 - 1 win to Ngongotaha.
The final pool game was against first division Rotorua City A, and despite chances at both ends, the game ended in a 0 - 0 draw.

This placed Rangers 7th out of the 12 teams. They met host team Rotorua Suburbs (div one) and fell behind to an early goal. Rangers then had a strong appeal for handball in the Suburbs penalty area turned down. In the second half Suburbs scored a goal from what seemed to be a well off-side position. However the referee disagreed and awarded it. Suburbs 2 Rangers 0.

In the finals, Ngongotaha A drew 1 - 1 with Whakatane and won the penalty shoot out 4 - 1. Ngongotaha B won the plate final with a penalty shoot out after a 0 - 0 draw against Suburbs.
