Plains Rangers AFC
May 17th 2003 v Rotorua Boys High School
On Saturday, Plains Rangers travelled to meet
unbeaten Rotorua Boys High School in BOP division two. The home team had the better of the first half exchanges, but Rangers keeper Matt Aberhart dealt comfortably with those shots that were on target. RBHS were awarded a first half penalty but this was struck onto the crossbar. The Rangers players concentration was probably not helped by the fact that the RBHS coach had to stand in as referee, with no official being appointed. After the interval, Rangers came back at the students and gained the upper hand for a while. Their best chance came when Bas Overdevest intercepted a goal kick. His shot and another follow up were blocked, and then Brendan Cusack had the hard luck to see his goal bound strike bounce off the keepers head and away for a corner! The telling blow came with ten minutes to go. A slight error in the Rangers defence and RBHS had a striker through with only the keeper to beat. Aberhart pulled off an excellent save, but the rebound was struck home. The final score RBHS 1 Plains Rangers 0. For Rangers, front runner Simon Ruiters hard working efforts saw him named player of the day. This Saturday, Rangers are at home to Kawerau. Kick-off at the Edgecumbe Domain is at 2 pm. |
