Gary Fowell Builders Plains Rangers

September 15th v Kawerau

The spectators at Tarawera Park enjoyed a good even game of football on Saturday. Kawerau Town hosted Gary Fowell Builders Plains Rangers on their giant sized pitch. Rangers made a lot of the early play, moving the ball well down the wings, but the Kawerau defence, led by their player of the day Jonathon Carter coped with the threats. Kawerau's main weapon going forward was the long ball, but Rangers were largely untroubled, with keeper Christian Wetting mopping up the balls that got through.
The second half was another even tussle, the warm weather combining with the large pitch to spread the play out. Midway through the half, the most likely prospect was a 0 - 0 draw, but then a moment of hesitation in the Rangers goalmouth following a corner and the home team were in front. Brian Muncaster, a goal poacher of many seasons, pounced and squeezed a shot inside the post. Late in the game, Muncaster delighted his team and supporters with a long range speculator that defied the odds to go in. The final score Kawerau 2 Plains Rangers 0.
Hard working centre midfielder Bas Overdevest was named player of the day for Rangers. Young defender Kyle Knight also had a good game.
This Saturday Rangers have their last league fixture, a home game, to be played at Awakeri, against Tauranga City United. Kick-off is likely to be at 2 pm.
