Gary Fowell Builders Plains Rangers got back on track
on Saturday, playing at home to Otumoetai in BOP division two.
Rangers welcomed back player-coach Christian Wetting and centre midfielder
Bas Overdevest into the line-up. The first half was a good battle, with
Rangers having more of the play, but not really gelling as a unit.
Some stern words from Wetting at the break firmed up Rangers' resolve.
Within five minutes, a Simon Gowing power shot was well saved by the Otumoetai
keeper. Another Gowing striker, soon after, took a small deflection, enough
to beat the keeper and open the scoring. Rangers relaxed after the goal
and played some flowing football. The home team were able to push forward,
exemplified by player of the day Steve Vierboom getting into plenty of
the action from right fullback. A cross from the right found striker Jono
Whitaker, who hit it beautifully past the keeper from the edge of the
area. The final score was Plains Rangers 2 Otumoetai 0.
This Saturday Rangers take a break from the league to play the first round
of the Tasman Cup. Rangers will meet Taupo at the Edgecumbe Domain, kick-off
at 2 pm.
