1999 Men's USPRO Championship Race & Womens Liberty Classic
June 6, 1999

This race is the pinnacle of US professional racing.  Each year thousands of fans line the course waiting to see who will be their next championship.  This year was a wonderful event from the moment I got in the hotel.  I stepped into the elevator at the hotel only to see George Hincapie's father.  I have met Mr. Hincapie over the years and talk to him at length about one of my favorite riders, George.  I had hoped to see George go for a double but was just as estatic to see Marty Jemison get the Stars and Stripes.  Marty is such an amazing and I think under recognized rider.  Marty is such an approachable person and will make a fantastic US Champion.

Manyunk Wall

• A Navigator tries to break away on the Wall.
• Hincapie climbs Manyunk on one of the last climbs up "The Wall".
• Christian Vande Velde climbs Manyunk just behind George Hincapie.
• Julian Dean of the USPS climbs the Wall.
• USPS Benoit Joachim climbs with a Linda McCartney rider..
• A Linda McCartney finds himself in the thick of it on the Wall.
• Another Linda McCartney Chris Lillywhite climbs the Wall.

Finishing Straight

• Fred Rodrigues tries to solo home, trying to bridge the gap to the leaders.

The Podium
