An Interview with.....
Chris Micheals
Who is Chris Michaels?
Chris Michaels is first a wrestling fan.
You have to love something first before you can truly be dedicated to it.
That goes for relationships also!
Secondly, I have been in this thankless business for ten years now, I am too involved now to quit. Besides, you only fail when you stop trying.
Chris Michaels is about doing things the old school way.
Work hard at your goal don't listen to what every one else says be your own self!
2) You were one of the original members of ECW. Tell us what that was like.
Pretty much like it is now. The anticipation before a show, wondering if we are reaching anyone out there. Will the fans pack the venue? Not knowing if you are ever going to make a profit. Wondering if what we see as entertaining will be appealing to the fans. Will we be Different? Will anyone start to follow our story line? Most of all will there be a sense of professionalism?
3) You suffered a career threatening knee injury in a match against Bodyguard for Hire. How tough was it to come back from an injury like that?
Coming back from a devastating knee injury was difficult to get used to. Not being able to move around like I did before surgery. So during my time I spent convalescing
I made a video called the "Wrestler that History Chose to Forget" and it was featured
on Staten Island Wrestlers. It was done to occupy my time without going nuts. Coming back from any type of injury is bad enough but the rehabilitation was hard also. The physical therapy was not easy at first, but with the passing weeks I made
progress. After about a year, I finally made it back into the ring and now all the hard work paid off I am currently the NWA/NY, Jr. Heavyweight Champion. I am also formally the NWA/NY Heavyweight Champion, the first ever dual title holder. I relinquished the Belt when I learned I won it under controversial conditions; Biggie Biggs interference.
4) Where did you train to become a wrestler and who trained you?
I was trained in a garage. Yes, a garage so all you guys out there who whine about a stiff ring deal with this. We had a floor with 2x4 and plywood with wrestling mats on a cement floor (talk about character building) that's it what? a spring? Hell it was a real treat to go to a show so we could work in a real ring. my trainers name was Mark Tendler. Unfortunately he was fatally shot to death some years ago at a bar called the Crazy Clown, funny I think this was swept under the rug like anything else
no one ever heard about this again. BTW he was shot execution style in the back of the head in the neck.
5) You have been in wrestling for over 15 years and have been in hundreds of matches. Who has your toughest and most persistent opponent been?
My toughest and most persistent opponent had been Bodyguard for Hire, or should I say I was his toughest and most persistent opponent. The fact is that I chased the Bodyguard around for a couple of years to try to get my hands on the Heavyweight Streetfight belt. But before that happened I had a run with Wildman Salvatore Bellomo in ECW. That is when ECW was Eastern Championship Wrestling. At that time I was teamed with Chris Candido and Johnny Hotbody we were the Suicide Blondes.
6) What is your opinion of the match, the outcome, and the aftermath between you and BLAST at St. John's University where you won the title but then gave it up?
HELLO EVERYONE THIS IS CHRIS MICHAELS, THANK YOU FOR ALL THE SUPPORT I WON THE NWA/NY/RCW TITLE LAST SATURDAY AND I WAS ECSTATIC BECAUSE NOT ONLY DID I FINALLY REACH MY GOAL IN NWA/NY/RCW SINCE MY ENTRANCE INTO THIS FED. IT WAS ALSO MY SON MICHAEL'S BIRTHDAY AND WHAT BETTER GIFT TO MY SON WINNING THE NWA/NY HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE. AS I WAS BEING INTERVIEWED BY JOE MALONE, HE REVEALED TO ME THAT BIGGIE BIGGS INTERFERED WITH MY MATCH CAUSING ME TO WIN WHICH BROUGHT ME TO A CROSSROAD IN MY CAREER. SHOULD I KEEP THE TITLE THAT I WORKED SO HARD FOR KNOWING THE TRUE OUT COME? THAT'S WHEN I DECIDED TO RELINQUISH THE TITLE TO COMMISSIONER O'BRIEN, SINCE REVIEWING THE VIDEO TAPE I HAD NO OTHER CHOICE. HOW COULD I FACE MY SON KNOWING THE TRUTH, WHAT KIND OF ROLE MODEL WOULD I BE TO HIM KNOWING I WON ON A FLUKE? YOU SEE, I MAY HAVE GIVEN UP THE TITLE BUT NOT MY SELF RESPECT. AFTER ALL I'M STILL THE NWA/NY JR. HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION AND THAT'S NOTHING TO SHAKE A STICK AT! I COULD ALWAYS WIN ANOTHER TITLE, I HAVE ALREADY PROVEN THAT I CAN NOTHING CAN STOP ME NOW.
7) What relationship do you have, if ANY, with Biggie Biggs?
Concerning the question about my relationship with Biggie Biggs, currently the only thing between us is the air we breath.
I don't know what was on his mind when he interfered in my first
heavyweight title match. It cost me the chance I earned to go win
heavyweight title meaning; I may have lost the match that night but
because he interfered I will never know if I had what it takes to defeat Blast that night. Now we have a relationship again not the one that he wants to have wait and see what develops.
8) The business has changed quite a bit since you've been in it. Do you feel these changes are good or bad?
The business has changed quite a bit since I have started. We stopped wrestling and started to move furniture. What I mean is in the quest for better entertainment we have resorted to cheap heat for all you ("smezart meezarks out there who think they know how it is because they are life long fans") You don't know how it is until you lace up the boots and LEARN how to wrestle and PAY your dues!
These changes could be good providing that we don't stray away from the basics. You have to know where you come from to know where you are going. If we kept wrestling in wrestling Owen Hart would be celebrating Christmas this year don't blame Vince for this look in the mirror! We are only human beings here. I know if he didn't do it someone else would have to keep their job all for what! I am going to stop this portion before I forget I am a gentleman.
9) How far do you see yourself going in the NWA? You went to the NWA 51st and made a good showing in the Royal Rumble. While you didn't win, you impressed many people. With the World Jr. Heavyweight Champion in Pittsburgh with PWX/NWA-East, do you see yourself with a World Title in your future?
I see myself going all the way in the NWA to include a World Title. I wouldn't get involved if I didn't think that I would make it to the top.
Point being set your sights high and you will achieve them set them
low and you will not exceed your lowest expectations. The choice clearly is yours. I choose to keep on trying until I am not able to
wrestle or I am just too old to go on anymore.
With the World Jr. Heavyweight Champion in PWX/NWA-East The title was never closer to me. Once we get started in branching out it will manifest itself like everything else I have said in the past I will be the New NWA World Jr. Heavyweight Champion.
10) What does the future hold for Chris Michaels here in RCW/NWA?
The future for Chris Michaels in RCW/NWA-NY is simply put. My future is so bright that I have to wear shades. I have proven that I have the drive to make it in this business now I have to see if I have the luck too.
With the support of the GREAT FANS of RCW/NWA-NY who can
stand against me!!
