The art of using shock-dispersing action such as rolls and breakfalls to avoid injury when falling.
In this short clip. A man is thrown to his back. To someone untrained, this fall could have been very serious or even fatal. Ukemi teaches one to learn to fall by spreading out the force of the fall onto the mat.
There are four different types of Ukemi.
-Ushiro ukemi, falling backward
-Yoko ukemi, falling sideways
-Mae-mawari ukemi, rolling foward
-Mae ukemi, falling foward
