Access point 13, just outside Whitney is approximately 3 ˝ hours north of Toronto. Chances are its best to arrive at the access point no later than 7pm, so that your one hour canoe trip to the campsite in Farm Bay will be made with the last bit of daylight. Those that arrive early may as well leave and stake claim to a site. Please make sure to have dinner ready for those that come late, and that the beer and wine are properly chilled.
At the crack of dawn or whenever everyone gets their ass out of bed we will continue our little journey exploring the wonders of the Algonquin wilderness as we canoe towards Rock Lake. Along the way, Joe is planning on leading us in a round of campfire songs, TV theme songs, and dirty limericks. So start practicing. " Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale.", and " Here's a story, of a lovely lady"
Depending on availability, we can either pitch our tents on Rose or Jean Isl. or better still can try for a site near the dam between Rock and Pen Lake on Saturday night. After a hearty meal (Can o' Chunky soup) we'll sit around the campfire listening to Brian's ghost stories and playing charades.
The next morning, we’ll start the day with a session of YOGA, followed by TAI CHI, in order to purify our minds as well as our souls. I’ve heard that Paul knows a lot of TAI women, so I figured he’d be an obvious choice to lead us in our exercises.
Back in our canoes, we’ll continue our journey with a brief morning ride into the piranha infested waters of Pen Lake, always on the lookout for ‘gators and water buffalo. Many canoes have been gobbled up whole by these predatory beasts so lets stick close together. The fun rises to a boiling point, as we begin our 1680m portage. That’s 1.6km or 1 mile for those who still haven’t come out of the imperial closet. After our little nature hike, it’s just a short three hour paddle to the finish line.
