  • I wish I could put all the stats for the girls like assists, rebounds, etc. but I don't have that info at my fingertips, so all I can put is baskets. Team effort is very important and all the girls contribute lots of things besides points. The girls began the year with some pressure to continue Ninilchik's 73 game winning streak.


  • Joe Floyd Christmas Tournament in Kodiak: Ninilchik Varsity defeats 4A Kodiak Varsity 25-23!!! Amanda Matson is high scorer with 13 points for the night. Other scorers: Emily Wood - 4, and Amanda Peterson, Katie Moerlein, Kendra Moerlein, and Mindy Dawson score a bucket each. They are the 1st 2A team to win this tourney. (They also beat 3A Dillingham and 1A King Cove to take the tournament).


  • Dec. 23rd - Alumni game 6 pm just for fun....results: Alumni wins by a point.


  • Jan. 10th - Mat Su Christian @ Palmer, 1 pm. Ninilchik wins 47-17.


  • Jan. 23rd - Nikolaevsk @ home, 5 pm. Ninilchik wins 63-21. Kendra Moerlein leads all scorers with 13 points. Other scorers for the night: Emily Wood - 10, Lauren Wolford - 9 (3 three pointers), Amanda Peterson & Amanda Matson - 7 apiece, Kjersten Skjold - 6, Mindy Dawson - 4, Katie Moerlein - 3, and Kelsey Rohr and Jen Erickson each with a bucket.


  • Jan. Jan. 30-31st - Seldovia @ Seldovia. Wolverines won 55-28. Points: Amanda Matson - 14, Kendra Moerlein - 13, Emily Wood - 8, Krista Leman - 5, Jennifer Erickson and Mindy Dawson - each with 4, Amanda Peterson - 3, and Katie Moerlein - 1.


  • Endowment Game: Feb. 2nd - Yakutat @ home, 5 pm. Wolverines won 52-27. Amanda Peterson was hot tonight with 16 points, including a couple of three point buckets. Amanda Matson and Emily Wood each made 9 points (Em made a 3); Kendra Moerlein and Kjersten Skjold had 4 points each; Mindy Dawson made 3 points; Jen, Jen and Krista each made a bucket.


  • Feb. 3rd - Nikolaevsk @ Nikolaevsk, 4 pm. Ninilchik wins 57-22. Amanda Matson is high scorer with 15 points. Kendra and Emily follow with 12 pts. each. Other scorers: Amanda P. - 5 pts., Jenn Erikson and Katie - 4 pts. each, Krista Leman - 3 pts. and Mindy Dawson - 2 pts.


  • Feb. 7th - Lumen Christian @ home, 6 pm. Ninilchik wins.


  • Feb. 12-14 - Ninilchik Tourney w/ Su Valley, Minto, Seldovia:


    Thursday, Feb. 12th:

    Su-Valley vs. Minto girls 3 pm. Su-Valley wins 48-35. High scorers were Rauchenstein with 11 points and Pilch and Hartley, each with 8 points. Other scorers: Terstegge with 6 pts, Besgrove with 5, Drover and Wick each with 4 and Bartel with a bucket. On Minto's side, Cassandra Silas gave an awesome effort with 21 points including a tre. The only other scorers were Joleen Mientieff with 13 and Ashley Alexander with a free throw.

    Su-Valley vs. Minto boys 4:45 pm. Minto wins 84-62 despite a huge effort by Su-Valley's Cyrus Bee who had 20 points. Other scorers: Matt Clark w/ 13, Olner with 11, Rouchenstein with 6, and Travis Clark, Dylan Lillie and Hammands each with 4 points. Minto Lakers had three players with double digits: Randy Charlie with 22 and Frank and Titus each with 20. Joseph Alexander gave a good effort with 9; followed by Titus who had 8. Kubany contributed three points and Mitchell Alexander - 2.

    Ninilchik vs. Seldovia girls 6:15 pm. Ninilchik wins 62-54 with good efforts by both teams. Ninilchik's Amanda Matson contributed 21 points, including a three pointer. Kendra Moerlein dished in 11; Katie Moerlein - 7, Amanda Peterson - 4 and Emily Wood and Jenn Erikson each had a bucket. For Seldovia, freshman Tatiana Gruber led her team with 12 points. Other scorers: Amy Gruber - 8, Jennifer Giles and Naomi Gallien - 6 each, and Ashley Darien had a basket.

    Ninilchik vs. Seldovia boys 8 pm. Ninilchik boys win 62-54. Connor Cooper had a good night with 20 points followed by Jason Schollenberg with 15. John Russo gave a good effort with 10 while Vinnie Kruzick contributed 8. Brendan Cuffe made four points, Eric Coleman - 3 and Josh Klapak had two. On Seldovia's side, high scorer was Charles Pulliam with 20, including two 3 pointers. Chance Collier put in 11 followed closely by brother Colton with 8. Spencer Giles and Jimmie Peyton each made 6 points and Marvin Norman made 3 points.


    Friday, Feb. 13th:

    Minto vs. Seldovia girls 3 pm. Seldovia wins it tonight 51-17. Amy and Tatiana Gruber lead the pack with 18 and 17 pts. consecutively. Jennifer and Naomi each score five points while Ashley scores 4 and Emily makes a basket. On the Minto side, Cassandra scores 8, Joleen scores 7 and Ashley makes a bucket.

    Minto vs. Seldovia boys 4:45 pm. Minto takes it 80-68. Joseph Alexander has a big night w/ 25 points,including 5 three pt. baskets, followed closely by Randy Charlie with 21 who also had 5 three point baskets. Craig Titus is also in double digits with 18 points, including 3 three pt. baskets, as is Carl Frank with 14, including 2 three point baskets. Kyle Titus makes a basket. Seldovia's

    Ninilchik vs. Su-Valley girls 6:15 pm. Ninilchik wins 64-16 and nearly everyone scores. Seniors Amanda Matson and Emily Wood along with freshman Krista Leman each score 11 points. Kendra is close behind with 10. Kjersten scores 6 and Jennifer Erikson and Mindy each contribute 4 pts. Kelsey scores 3 points and Katie and Lauren each make a bucket. On the Su-Valley side, nobody gets into double digits. High scorer is Annie Rauchenstein with 7 points. Mary make 4, Katie and Krystal make a basket each and Desi makes a free throw.

    Ninilchik vs. Su-Valley boys 8 pm. Ninilchik wins 61-42 in an exciting game. Jason Schollenberg is high scorer for Ninilchik with 18 (incl. 2 tres) followed by Connor Cooper with 16, including a couple of tres. JP puts in 12; Vinnie - 6, Eric - 3, and Josh, John and Brendan each score a bucket.


    Saturday, Feb. 14th:

    Seldovia vs. Su-Valley girls 12 noon. Seldovia wins 44-34 with Ashley Darien and Jennifer Giles as high scorers for the game with twelve points apiece. Tatiana Gruber followed closely with ten points (incl two 3 point baskets) while Amy Gruber put in 6 and Naomi and Felicia each contributed a basket. On Su-Valley's side, Mary and Annie were high scorers with 9 points each. Heidi put in 5 followed by Cherell and Moriah with four points each. Krystal put in a basket and Katie made a free throw.

    Seldovia vs. Su-Valley boys 1:45 pm. Seldovia wins it 68-41 with Jimmie Payton being the hero of the game, putting in 18 points incl. a three pointer. Charles put in 15 and close on his heels were Colton and Chance with 14 each. Marvin helped with 4 points and Casey with 3. Su-Valley's effort was led by Boon with 14 (incl. a 3 pointer) and Cyrus with 13. Other scorers: Matt with 6, Colin with 4 and Mike and Evon each had a basket.

    Ninilchik vs. Minto girls 3:30 pm. Ninilchik slaughtered Minto 90-18, not allowing any of Minto's players into double digits. Ninilchik's Emily Wood was hot with 19 points and Amanda M. dished in 16. Freshman Kjersten Skjold was the recipient of a lot of good assists, putting in 14. Kendra Moerlein put in 12. Other scorers: Katie - 8; Krista, Lauren, Jennifer E and Mindy - 4 apiece; Jenn B. - 3 and Kelsey - 2. Minto was held scoreless in the 3rd quarter and their top scorer was Cassandra who managed 7 points. Joleen put in 6, Eilleen - 3 and Ashley - 2.

    Ninilchik vs. Minto boys 5:15 pm. Minto boys speed and skill gave them a 67-53 victory over the Wolverines with Randy Charlie dishing in 22 points, including a couple of tres. Craig Titus helped with 18 (incl. a tre) and Carl Frank put in 13. Other contributors: Kyle - 7 (incl a tre), Joseph - 4, Presston - 2 and Matt - 1. The Wolverines played hard with Connor putting in the most points with 18, including two three pointers. Jason dished in 13 followed by JP with 12. Vinnie may be short but he's a great rebounder...the kid can fly. He also put in 5 points. Eric helped with 3 and Josh - 2.


    Ninilchik kids who made the All Tourney Teams: Kendra and Katie Moerlein and Emily Wood with Amanda Matson being chosen Tourney MVP. John Paul Russo, Jason Schollenberg and Connor Cooper made the boys' team. MVP was a Minto player.

    Thanks to everyone for making it a great tourney...too many to mention, but we thank you all from the bottom of our hearts!


  • Feb. 21st - CIA @ home. Ninilchik wins 55-30. Amanda Matson ruled the night with 28 points. Kendra put in 11. Krista, Emily and Kjersten each contributed 4 and Lauren made a bucket. No CIA players were able to get into double digits.


  • Feb. 23rd - Unalaska @ home. Ninilchik wins 53-16. Amanda M. dominated with 20 points. Kendra made 10. Jenn E made 6, Lauren and Krista had 5 and 4 respectively. Mindy put in 3 and Amanda P and Emily each had a basket. No Unalaska player was able to get into double digits tonight.


  • Feb. 24th - Bristol Bay @ home, 5 pm. Ninilchik wins 58-54 in a nailbiter. The Unalaska girls were strong and fast and had several shooters, but still couldn't quite break the Wolverine winning streak. Amanda P. was high scorer with 17 points, incl. 3 threes. Amanda M. had 16. Kendra and Emily were both into double digits with 12 and 10 respectively. Mindy contributed three.


  • Feb. 26th-28th - Tok Tourney - Ninilchik beats Galena 64-14 with 5 of our girls hitting threes and good scoring for the night. Amanda M. and Lauren were high scorers for this game with 14 and 13 pts. consecutively. Em had 11. Amanda P. and freshman Krista Leman posted 8 and 7 pts. consecutively. Sisters Kendra and Katie contributed 4 and 3 pts. consecutively. Three point scorers for the night: Amanda P. and Lauren each made two three point buckets while Krista, Em and Amanda M. each made one.


  • Ninilchik beat Tok 50-37 with close scoring until the last quarter. Amanda M. was hot with 21 while Em and Kendra had good nights with 12 and 11 pts. consecutively. Amanda P. and Katie each made 3 points.


  • Ninilchik beat Skagway 32-27. None of the girls were able to hit double figures. Peterson and Wolford were the only three point scorers - Amanda P had two and Lauren had one. For the night, Amanda M. and Amanda P. each scored 9 points. Emily scored 4, Kendra - 3, Mindy and Katie - 2 each. Other tourney info: Amanda Matson was tourney MVP. Emily was an All Tourney selection and free throw champion. Amanda P. won the 3 point contest. Katie was an All Sports Team selection.


  • March 4th - Nenana @ home, 5 pm. Ninilchik wins 40-32, after being down by 13 @ halftime. Kendra was the only Ninilchik girl in double figues tonight with 14. Amanda M. had 9 and Emily - 8. Amanda P put in 6 and Lauren W. had a three point bucket. Nenana outscored Ninilchik in three of four quarters.


  • March 5th - CIA @ CIA, 7 pm. Ninilchik wins 53-23. No CIA players got into double figures and every Ninilchik player played and scored. High scorer for the night was Kendra with 17. Amanda M and Amanda P. had 8 and 7 points respectively. Other contributors: Katie, Krista, Lauren and Mindy each had 4 points while Em and Kjersten mad a basket each and Kelsey had a free throw. Jenn Erickson wasn't present tonight as she is participating with Team Alaska at the Arctic Winter Games.


  • March 13th - Lumen @ Lumen, 2 pm. We won....didn't get stats.


  • March 17-20th - Regional Tournament @ Lumen in Anchorage. Ninilchik girls beat CIA 51-10 to advance to the championship game but lost the championship game to Bristol Bay 46-43. They played for 2nd against Seldovia and won 55-37 to advance to the State Tournament in 2nd seed.


  • March 25-27th - State Tourney at Service High School. Stats can be obtained from: ASAA.ORG

    Ninilchik Wins State Tourney for the 5th straight year, which is an unprecedented achievement for Alaskan teams in any gender or division! Way to go, Wolverines!!!!! All Sports Teams selections from Ninilchik were Katie and Kendra...these are chosen by the coach. All Tourney Team: Amanda Matson, Kendra Moerlein and Lauren Wolford. Player of the Year: Amanda Matson!!!! Coach of the Year: Dan Leman!!! First Team All State: Amanda Matson. Second Team All State: Kendra Moerlein. Third Team All State: Katie Moerlein. Honorable Mention All State: Amanda Peterson, Lauren Wolford.
