Ninilchik Lady Wolverines have captured their 8th State title in the past 11 years of going to State. In three exciting games, they polished off Galena, Point Hope, and Bristol Bay to take the title. Thanks to all the fans who came up to Anchorage to support the Lady Wolverines - I know they are glad they were there!!

Krista and Kendra were selected to the All Tourney Team and Krista and Heidi were selected by Coach Leman for the All Sports team for '06.

In their first round game against the Galena Hawks, the girls had a balanced scoring effort with Kendra making 9 points followed by Krista and Kjersten each with 8, Ashley with 6, Lauren with 5 and Heidi with 4. Krista and Lauren's points included a three pointer apiece. Final score: 40-25. Player of the Game: KRISTA LEMAN!!!!!!!!!!!

In their semi-final game against Pt. Hope, four players scored in double figures. Krista had a monster night with 21 points, including 14 of 16 from the line as well as 6 steals and a blocked shot. Heidi poured in 16. Kendra scored 13 incl. a three pointer, jumped high for 12 rebounds, and blocked a shot. Kjersten had 11 points. Lauren had 5 assists. The score was 45 to 40 at one point as Pt. Hope rallied back but the final score ended up being 63 - 45. Player of the Game: KRISTA LEMAN!!!!!!!!!

In the final game against conference rival and last year's champs, Bristol Bay, it started out scary with Krista getting three fouls and Kendra getting two fouls in the first quarter. But by the half, the girls were only behind by one. The 2nd half was no less tense and they were neck and neck throughout. They went into their spread with a couple of minutes left in the game with a three point lead. Bristol Bay fouled with 1:10 left on the clock and again with 36 seconds left, sending Krista to the foul line to shoot the bonus free throws. She hit her first and missed her second and Bristol Bay scored with 16 seconds left, cutting the Wolverine lead to two points, but they had to foul again and Kendra went to the line making one. Lauren fouled three times to keep the Angels from getting into an offensive set and when the Angels did get a chance to shoot, Heidi Skjold had the block of her life. The Wolverines got the ball and headed down the court and when the buzzer went off the final score was 45 - 43. Krista led the Wolverines with 13 points, including 2 three pointers, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal. Heidi pitched in 11 points, including 3 of 4 free throws. She also had 4 rebounds, 2 blocked shots and 2 steals. Kendra made 10 points, had 11 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 blocked shots. Other scorers: Lauren had 6 points, incl. 2 three pointers. Ashley scored 3 points and JBart had 2. Player of the game: KENDRA MOERLEIN!!!!!!!!!!!!
