have problems with Fedansa National Hi Jay,
Jay the following was handed to me by a youth dancer and I undertook to forward same to you.
"I have been a dancer for a number of years now and am now dancing pre-champ.I however have a few questions or shall I say something which baffled me and which I picked up at the AGM on 10 February 2002.
Raffick Hoosein and Janine are supposedly the amateur South Africa latin champions.
I have attended every competition in the year 2001 and have not once seen them on any of the competition floors in Gauteng. Is it fair on our other dances who loyally and without fail compete and support Fedansa, mix with our other amateur beginners - championship dancers and then have Rafffick and Janine dancing 2 competitions for the year being chosen and sponsored by Fedansa to represent the Country. Some of the dancers do not even know who Raffick and Janine are.
They usually jet all over the world to dance and receive assistance from Fedansa whereas they do not support Fedansa in any way (They flew to Dubhay the day after the SA's). They now have problems with Fedansa National and we the dancers are supposed to support them in this matter. Their attitudes are too disgusting towards other dancers. As a dancer I see them on the cover of books and on the 10th it was the first time ever I saw Raffick at an AGM.
Please can anybody out there answer these questions or am I on the wrong path.
Dedicated Dancer"
Ed
I also have an erring BIG problem with that. It's called unfair bias. Someone in-the-know is in love with someone in that pair.I've circulated your letter to my huge following of ardent dancers... Competitive, Social, Spanish, Modern and Freestyle. Even if they ignore your honest words, they'll get the message, and I bet, you're not the only one who resents this type of blatant favouritism. I thought AGM's were there to sort out problems, not foster them? DD, thanks for your input.

one thing has really ticked me off Hi there Jay
It has been a long time since I last mailed you and I still happily receive and read you mail and website very regularly. But one thing has really ticked me off and I must say this in the strongest terms, that People who have not been in the dancing world long, cannot really make statements and accusations about other dancers that have been dancing for years. I am referring to the letter that was sent to you from 'Dedicated Dancer'. Yes, it is good to have people really interested in what is going on, and also taking note of things that happen within the dancing world. I also feel the same way that 'DD' feels, and I also feel that it is unfair sometimes, but you must also look at it from a different perspective.
Not all of us can afford to fly all around the world for competitions and improve ourselves, or have the time to do that, but luckily for "R & J", they do. But I would just like to set the record straight with 'DD', when I say that they are not being sponsored by Fedansa. I would like to know from 'DD', where he or she gets that information and under what circumstances they got it?
As far as I am concerned, I have been competing for 20 years and I am very much involved in dancing in South Africa and have also been the SA Champion in every age category and not once or never have I heard of or seen any of
the top couples being sponsored by Fedansa. Maybe the PAB's have got together with certain couples and help them raise funds, but to my knowledge I have not heard of any of that things going on.Also, if 'DD' do not know Rafick and Janine, then they definitely have not been long in the dancing world and definitely do not know the history of dancing in this country. If 'DD' are from JHB, then they must just ask anybody who is R & J, then they will know. I am not defending Rafick and Janine, but just defending dancing in general, cause maybe next week someone could be saying things about me (Carl) or my brother (Quintus) and I feel that they people saying these things should get all there information right first before saying and accusing.
Also, what is "DD" saying about Michael and Beata? they only come and dance the SA's and then they leave... what's wrong with that?? They fly the flag of South Africa proudly overseas. Also, if you are the National Champions, then you also get invited to competition all over the world and most times either the whole trip is paid for by the organizers or half of it and you have to see to the other half, and that is why they can travel so much. Also Janine's Parents live in Dubai and that is why they can travel there.
If 'DD' wants more information, then he/she should contact me and I will tell them.
kind regards and keep dancing

GENERAL NEWS
1. LETTER FROM DANIEL and LINDADear All
Daniel Canuti is back in Germany now, but both he and I would like to express our sincere thanks to all the people who helped out with the courses and to all those who made his time in Cape Town so memorable. The list is too great to mention and we have expressed personal thanks to most people, but we would like to say once again that we couldn't have done it without all of you.
We received help from many people. Thank you again to those who helped with the posters, the pamphlets, the press release, the emailing, the photographing, the music for the salon, the setting up(and clearing up) of the hall for the salon, the organising of classes in Strand, those leaders who came to balance out numbers and to help beginner learners, those who lent out their home for private lessons, those who gave Daniel much needed physiotherapeutic massage(!). Thank you too for the braai organised in Daniel's honour as well as the dinner invitations(some of which we could not make). Thank you too for the lovely gifts.
A lot of people gave up precious time to help out and take part. We believe that the classes would not have run so smoothly had we not been given the support and encouragement that we did. Daniel was particularly touched by the warmth and enthusiasm of the tango students here.
The classes were fun, but hard work. We hope that we have added something to tango in Cape Town. We hope everybody learned a lot and we hope that the tango community will develop, mature and keep growing in Cape Town.
Many thanks
Daniel and Linda
That's it from me, HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL SOON AND PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO FRIENDS AND DANCERS WITHOUT EMAIL. Chow Mark
