:: 25-26 Oct 01: Is it the weekend yet? ::
First off, a special shout to Okayplayer vet and (Re)union founder Ya-Ya, who popped up unexpectedly on the boards yesterday. Much love and best wishes as always to the Queen.
Memories of the 2001 (Re) in Chicago are amiss in the General boards today...among other things.
Other news:
*Believed by some to be the alias of some clever OKP, Lyricist_Z (just read that name in CAPS) is still wreaking havoc in Writer's Block after his recent escape from the chat rooms. Click here for one of his recent rants.
*Check out the reaction to the television debut of Mos Def's Black Jack Johnson in the Lesson.
*Okayplayer Lunchboxxx is starting up another lyrical tournament in Freestyle. Click here if you're up for it.
And now, here are your Soundbites (you say it--I just repeat it):
"I have found the most frustrating crush to have is on an artist. No, I don't mean the Lenny Kravitz's nipple ring makes me wanna do very bad things with him crush either. I mean when you meet an artist and spend a little time with them and you know there is potential but because you lack celebrity status (which is so fleeting) or don't look like some chick out of a video-they wouldn't let you shine their shoes. I know in particualr there are a couple of artists that I have met through work and we had great convo, they asked very personal questions and showed interest, one even gave his number and then flipped the script. For all those who behave this way-remember that guy on the corner in them sweat socks and old Kangol doin' doo wop talking about how he used to be in the Five Tops (pun intended)-that could be you and the average chick will be the one by your side with the photo album showing everyone how you used to be the man, not the trophies. I'm feeling much better now-thanks to the OKP that posted about crushes-it got me thinking." -Jaharrah, "Crushes on Artists Suck!"
"...i'm thinkin...a cult film cannot have alot of mainstream appeal...it could be a good movie tho underrated or a just a godawful flick w/great dialogue or costumin or characters...if it was a "hit" it was by accident...or it's aged well enuff. like...gladiator would not be a good cult flick, but let's say...ben hur might be able to be because it's old as hell & if they made it today it'd be nuthin like it was then. okay." -Morpheme, "Great Cult Flicks"
"Aaron Mcgruder is very fortunate a wide spread paper would print these sentiments in a magazine. if this was anywhere else it would be "flagged" Pun intended...So to say we dont have "Freedom" is desensitizing how much freedom we have quite a bit. A corporate newspaper allows Aaron Mcgruder to express distrust and distaste in our government. They dont have to do this, and continue running the funny Flaggee and Ribbon. In Cuba you think Castro would allow this? He would send Mcgruder to the firing squad." -Jefleejohnson, "Aaron Macgruder"
"Vulnerability involves being willing to take the risk that you might be hurt, but doing it anyway -- because it's worth it, the thrill alone is worth it. Do the pros outweigh the cons? Not always. But if they do... wouldn't you hate having missed out on "it" for the sake of being guarded? Let your soul be naked."-K_A_Wright, from bfnh's "Vulnerability"
This, of course, is our Soundbite of the Day:
"YALL THINK YALL CAN HANG MEET ME IN THE FREESTYLE SECTION OR BETTER YET BRING UR GOOD FOR NOTHIN ASS TO THE CHATROOM WE CAN DO IT LIVE IN FRONT OF UR FANS JUST TO RUB IT IN...NAMES DONT MEAN SHIT TO ME ILL SHIT ON ANYONE I DONT CARE IF UR JIGGA OR MC UNKNOWN...U THINK U CAN HANG?? ACCEPT MY CHALLENGE AND WELL SEE WHO THE SUPERSTAR IS....PEACE...PS THIS POST IS FOR THE OKAYPLAYER RAPPERS, SO ALL YALL BITCHMADE GROUPIES GET OFF MY DICK PEACE..." -LYRICIST_Z
The rest of the site is still under construction, but I did manage to dig up Phil's old Roots fan fiction story. It's in Okaycomputer Classic. Also, look for more information on the upcoming Okayplayer Compilation. See you next week...
