Nomad of the Year. |
Ross Heslington was voted Nomad of the Year for 1999. Ross had another excellent season for the Nomads. Once again, Ross was the Nomads leading bowler topping the averages and taking 35 wickets, alomost double the next best bowler. His batting was excellent and notable innings included 80 not out against Mechelen in baking hot conditions and his record opening stand with Pete Gardner against Glebelands. He finished up second in the batting averages and second in the overall runs scored. |
Performance of the Year. |
Mal Pinfield won the Performance of the Year trophy for 1998. There were several noteworthy performances this season. The 181 opening stand between Heslington and Gardner against Glebelands. Paul Fearon's 53 not out against John Taylor which included 5 sixes. John Hoddy's excellent bowling which saw him take 17 wickets this season. Heslington's 80 not out against Mechelen was an excellent performance but the winner was judged to be Mal's fighting 45 against Prestatyn. In appalling conditions Mal battled to give the Nomads a chance of winning. The innings typified his fighting spirit, paitence at the crease and sheer refusal to give in when the odds were against him. |
Fielder of the Year. |
Some excellent fielding this year saw Phil pick up 7 catches and his all round contribution was outstanding making him the unanimous choice for Nomads Fielder of the Year. Special mention was made of the two keepers, Saul Shohet and Pete Gardner, Aiken Hussein (7 catches), Paul Fearon (7 catches) and Darren Cartwright. Generally a much improved performance by the Nomads in the field. |
Gonad of the year. |
Paul Fearon won the Gonad of the Year. Paul took the lead from the very first ball of the season and maintained it for the majority of the season. There were briefly 3 people tied on 3 Gonads in August but another duck at Bugbrooke ensured that the trophy returned to Sutton Coldfield for a second year. |
Fantasy Cricket. |
Ross Heslington triumphed this year. It was a close run thing with Ross, Aiken and Paul sharing the lead at various stages through the summer. But Ross won, Paul Fearon came second and Pete Willis grabbed third spot in the final week of the season. |
Special Award. |
Pete Willis was presented with a special award to mark his enormous
contribution to the club since it was established in 1982. Pete has been the Treasurer since the club began and resigned this season. The club chairman Ray Jennett presented Pete with an engraved tankard, which was duly filled with fine ale. |
