Nomad of the Year. (Voted by the members) |
Mal Pinfield had one of his best ever seasons with the
bat. He topped the run scorers with 472 and finished with 5 half centuries, including 74
not out against Church Eaton. Pete Gardner rallied well at the end of the year to finish
second in the run scorers list with 424 and the best individual score of 80 against
Bablake Old Boys. The best of the rest with the bat was Ross Heslington (328) with
John Hoddy boosting his average with 7 not outs. There were also useful cameos from Mark
Fellows, Bob Grewer and newcomer Dan Moss. The middle order all scored runs at times
during the season but the lack of consistency meant that under achievement was the order
of the day. On the positive side Akin Hussein grew in confidence as the season progressed
and Darren spent valuable time at the crease on several occasions. With the ball it was a close run thing with several Nomads getting 15 or more wickets and Darren Cartwright eventually finishing top of the pile with 20 wickets at 24.2. Chris Rowland topped the bowling averages with 11 wickets at 13.9 and passed 300 wickets for the Nomads. John Hoddy juggled the captaincy with his bowling duties and took 18 wickets at 18.7. Keith Greaves bowled accurately and with genuine lack of pace and picked up some vital scalps on his way to 18 wickets at 25.9. Ross Heslington's run as top dog came to an end after 9 years of finishing the leading wicket taker and also finishing top of the averages for most of those seasons. He still managed to contribute a useful 18 wickets at 26.5. Paul Fearon picked up 17 wickets at 20.9 and passed 250 wickets for the Nomads. Phil Higginson was also impressive and is developing into a promising strike bowler. Phil was let down by the fielders all too often and didn't always get the rub of the green but contributed 12 wickets at 30.25. Dave Forster chipped in with 12 wickets at 29.2. Ray Jennett was again a major contributor off the field with regular umpiring sessions and scoring duties. Pete Willis administered the Fantasy Cricket as efficiently as ever and Paul Fearon kept the whole world up to date with regular web updates. Darren Cartwright was voted Nomad of the Year by the members for his outstanding contribution this season. He was the leading wicket taker with 20 wickets, won the fielder of the year trophy for his excellent fielding and also starred in some superb lower order partnerships including a record 9th wicket partnership of 67 with skipper John Hoddy. He also did his bit behind the scenes with organising club socials including the Test Match trip and Annual Dinner. |

Fielder of the Year. (Chosen by the committee) |
Darren Cartwright was voted fielder of
the year. Excellent all round fielding display and he is one of the few Nomads that the
opposition don't take quick singles to. Overall the fielding genuinely has improved. Once again Keith Greaves was consistently the safest pair of hands with 8 catches. The keepers duties were rotated this season. Pete Gardner took 7 catches, 4 stumpings and 2 run outs. Mike McGuinness took 4 catches and 2 stumpings. Saul Shohet took 3 catches and 3 stumpings. John Hoddy took 3 catches and 2 stumpings. Run outs were tallied for the first time with 3 for Paul Fearon. 2 for Pete Gardner, John Hoddy, Darren Cartwight and Keith Greaves. |
Gonad of the year. |
John Hoddy won the Gonad of the Year. After a dodgy start Pete Gardner threatened a GonadFest with 2 early on but the Captain stepped into the breach to take the trophy. Darren Cartwright avoided the last game of the season after being precariously on 2 Gonads. Keith Greaves and Akin Hussein were also on 2 Gonads and could have won the trophy on the last day. Akin bravely opened the batting and scored without problems and Keith wasn't required. Full Details |
Fantasy Cricket. |
Pete Willis won again this year, for his fourth victory in 6 years. It was a close run thing, with Paul Fearon's team making a late charge but failing to close the gap, Darren Cartwright finished third. Full Details |
