Batting It was business as usual for Pete Gardner as he retook the highest run scorer crown with an excellent 760 runs. He top scored with 156*, a new personal best, in the record breaking match against Church Eaton and he scored 4 more half-centuries including 81 against Mechelen CC. Mal Pinfield was runner-up this year with 327 runs. His best score was 62 against Great Barr Unity and he scored one more half-century, 55 not out against Bugbrooke. Three other batsmen passed 200 runs with Ross Heslington on 289, Dan Moss on 239 and Phil Higginson on 236. Ross scored one half-century, 55 against Swynnerton in the first match of the season. Dan improved his personal best to 62 not out against Trentside, in his second season, and scored two other 50s. Phil improved his personal best to 43 in the last match of the season at Blythe Bridge. Hussein had one of his best years with the bat and scored 188, including a personal best 63 against Church Eaton. He also scored a half century in the Nomads Anniversary match, which was not included in the averages. The others to pass 100 runs were Paul Fearon (130) and John Hoddy (113). In the anniversary match, Darren Cartwright scored a debut 50, Fearon scored 36 to add to his 130 as his batting improved late in the season with the help of a new bat and Higginson scored 31 to add to his 236. Fielder of the Year. (Chosen by the committee) |
Overall, with the exception of the
match against Highcroft, the fielding has improved again. Keith Greaves catching has been outstanding and he pouched 15 catches in a remarkable year. Gardner performed the keeper's duties with aplomb and this was especially impressive given his injury while standing up in the first match of the season. There weren't many run outs this year with Hussein, Weir and Hemmings all claiming one each. The ground fielding has improved with Dan Moss teaching the older players how it should be done. Keith Greaves was awarded the Fielder of the Year trophy. |
Gonad of the year. |
Dave Pickering won the Gonad of the Year. Two Gonads from Fearon set the early pace but the purchase of a new bat stopped the rot. Greaves, Pickering and Hoddy then joined him on 2 Gonads. The coup de grace came at Highcroft where Greaves scored valuable runs and Pickering batting with a runner was run out by Greaves for his third Gonad and no runs. Full Details |
Most Valuable Player. |
With a hint of irony the trophy
suggested by Phil Higginson was deservedly won by Phil Higginson. Some
excellent all-round performances that often tipped the balance in favour of the Nomads. Phil Higginson 41 points |
Fantasy Cricket. |
Pete Willis' dominance of the fantasy league came to an end as Pete Gardner won the title this year. It was a close run thing with Akin Hussein leading for most of the year and the two of them having opened up a sizeable gap from the rest of the pack. Chris Rowland came with a late run to finish third. Full Details |
