(Hussein 23).
Barton won toss and elected to bat on a boiling hot afternoon. the match was a declaration match and Hoddy was allowed a runner when and if he batted. They knocked up a quick 216-6 off 37 overs. The slow over-rate caused by the hot conditions and tactical awareness of the Nomads. Best performances of Barton M.Bird 60 and A.Mitchells 62. Fortune did not favour Nomads as a number of catching chances just evaded fielders.

BOWLERS
Higginson  12-2-61-3, Forster 4-0-23-0, Cartwright 7-0-53-0, Heslington 9-1-46-2 & Greaves 5-0-28-0
Catches Higginson (1), Fellows (1)   Run out - Pinfield(1)

Nomads batted and were soon reduced to 0-2 with Fellows bowled round his legs and Pinfield caught first ball. Hussein and Heslington steadied things with a stand of 28 before Heslington was caught off a top edge for 8. Higginson soon followed with a feeble chip to covers off his 4th ball. Hussein was rather harshly dismissed lbw for 23 leaving Nomads at 48-5 off 19 overs which became 49-7 off 21 overs as Shohet and Forster quickly capitulated. At this point all thoughts of victory had long since gone and hopes of attaining a draw were almost non-existant. However that celebrated, stubborn partnership of Hoddy and Cartwright were at the crease. These two put their heads down and batted a further 12 overs together for a further 32 runs, Cartwright surviving a very close lbw appeal, until Hoddy followed an out-swinger edging a well-taken catch to the keeper. Things looked bleak as Hoddy and Higginson (Hoddy's runner) walked off leaving only Greaves and Andrew Wilkinson (friend of Cartwright who had last played cricket at school) to help see Cartwright through at least 7 overs. However Greaves curbed his natural stroke play and lasted 4 overs bringing our last batsman to the crease. Cartwright kept strike well and Wilkinson had to face only 5 balls scoring a vital run in the last over to give back the strike. Cartwright nervously saw out the last 3 balls to give Nomads an unlikely draw. Final score 89-9
