Lichfield Nomads 128 for 9 v Sunseekers 46 all out

Nomads Scorch Sunseekers

Nomads convincingly beat Sunseekers, by 82 runs in a low scoring match at an overcast Barton. Nomads posted 128 for 9 and Sunseekers were dismissed for 46 runs. Rich Caygill top scored for the Nomads with a valuable 31 runs. With the Blackburns still celebrating Liverpool's thrilling FA Cup victory over West Ham, Pinfield was the Nomads stand-in skipper. He won the toss and elected to bat despite the non-appearance of Moss.
Gardner was adjudged lbw despite the bowler withdrawing his appeal because the ball pitched outside leg. Left Hander Gardner has now had 3 successive lbws this season.
With the score at 8-2 the Nomads didn't get the best start and Moss' whereabouts were needed. It transpired that Dan was working and had contacted the skipper but the message had not been relayed. Hussein was quickly telephoned and nobly agreed to cover.
Caygill and Pinfield rebuilt the innings before Pinfield tweaked his calf muscle and needed a runner. After a while Pinfield limped off, retired hurt, as there was still plenty of batting in the hutch.
Osborn didn't last long before being bowled with the score on 58. Fearon hit a sprightly 15 but miss hit a drive in the air straight to mid-off and was caught. Hussein hit a sweet pull shot for four and then was clean bowled next ball.
With nine wickets down Pinfield returned to the action with Gardner as his runner to help eke out a few more runs and complete the 40 overs, with Forster doggedly protecting his wicket. The total of 128 seemed low but in the cool conditions and slow outfield it was still a competitive score.

The Nomads bowling was top notch today and Sunseekers wilted under the pressure. Openers Heslington and Forster bowled tightly. Forster took two wickets in his eight over spell and Heslington took one wicket in six overs. Fearon and Hoddy turned the screw even tighter as the run rate dried up and the wickets began to tumble. Hoddy took three wickets for five runs in just four overs and Fearon took two wickets for 4 off six overs. Hussein made a telling contribution catching top scorer Carpenter off Fearon before colliding with Ian Hughes as both fielders converged at speed in the covers. Hughes and Greaves continued the bowling dominance and Hughes had Bull caught for 6 runs.
Gardner picked up a rare wicket, dismissing Walters (S) to wrap up the Sunseekers innings. When asked when was his last wicket he said it must have been Woore. "First World War or Second World War came the sharp riposte.
