24/9/00 - Fantasy League Final Week
(Week 21). Well that's the end of another cricket season. As I got rained on all day I assume the Wall game failed to reach a conclusion which at least leaves the Skipper a bit richer! The Fantasy season went right down to the wire with Heslington's April Showers emulating last years team by being at the front by the end of the first class season. Fortunately for me there was still the final National League games on the Sunday and runs from Cassar and wickets by Cousins meant that I sneaked in by just 18 points. Undoubtably the closest result we have ever had and a win by just 0.3per cent ! Special mention should go to Darren as he started the season with the only 27 point team, made no changes and still came third overall. A fair attempt by everyone involved and I hope you will be back for next years bash. Cheers, Pete. |
24/9/00 - Nomads washed out at Wall. With the chance of a free curry to the Nomads, if they won the last match to make it a winning season. There was dissapointment all round as early forecasts of a hot day were confounded by torrential rain and the game was called off. |
17/9/00 - Nomads lose out to Old
Edwardians. Nomads were beaten by Five Ways Old Edwardians by 6 wickets in a declaration match. Nomads were put in to bat and made 165 for 7 off 51 overs (Gardner 63, Pinfield 36, Williams 3-32) on a slow pitch. FWOE won with a bit to spare thanks to 47 from opener Khan and a rapid 57 not out from Barratt. Scorecard |
15/9/00 - Fantasy League Week 20. Penultimate week time and Heslington makes his push for the money by recording the highest score of the week and the only 300+. Creditable scores by Evans (292) and Fearon (283) were almost entirely the work of their bowlers. Just 39 points between the top two - and Ross is having the better of week 21 so far. Will the weather decide the outcome - or will it be the players? Cor! Exciting innit! Cheers, Pete. |
10/9/00 - Final 50 club prizes. The September draw took place at Selly Oak Hospital Sports and Social Club. The winners were 1st : No. 45 Alan Birch (£15) 2nd : No. 9 Darren Cartwright (£10) |
10/9/00 - Nomads win at Selly Oak. On a sultry hot September afternoon the Nomads beat Norton CC by 76 runs. Nomads were put in to bat and made 168 for 8 off 40 overs (Gardner 33). Norton reached 92 for 9 (all out) with Fearon taking 3-12. Barry Howcroft making his debut scored 24 and took 2-13. |
8/9/00 - Fantasy League Week 19. Just 15 points separate this weeks' top four scorers with Rowland as Top Dog on 300. Probably the top three places are now decided (Hussein and Pinfield won't agree) however the overall winner is yet to be sorted. Ross is having much the better of week 20 than I as I made some duff final changes. Full details. Pete. |
3/9/00 - Fixture mix-up. Nomads game against Birch Coppice was cancelled. 2 teams turned up to play Coppice. |
1/9/00 - Fantasy League Week 18. Despite indifferent scores this week Willis and Heslington maintain top spots but Cartwright returns to third with this weeks' best. At the front of the grid are Cartwright(345), Gardner (291) and Martyn (283) while occupying the Minardi cockpit is Rowland with 195. NOTE: Final transfers, if any, must be made by Wednesday 6th Sept 10am. Time to clear out all those England players who have a holiday before going on tour! Full details. Pete. |
25/8/00 - Fantasy League Week 17. Just four weeks left after this one so things are beginning to sort themselves out. Top Dog this week has been Rowland with a creditable 326 closely followed by the skipper on 319. Sardines also managed a 300+ score to ease away slightly from the April Showers. Fearon's complex changes proved to be wise in the end and has moved him away fom the wooden spoon. Unfortunately for Martyn half his side were not playing this week and he becomes the Bag of Bonio. Full details. Pete. |
20/8/00 - 50 Club prize draw winners. The draws for July and August were made at Holland Sports and Social Club, Barton as follows. July 1st: No. 34 K. Fisher 2nd: No. 47 K. Fisher August 1st: No. 23 J. Healy 2nd: No. 31 Mrs Jennett |
20/8/00 - Nomads win at home to
Sunseekers The curse of the plastic was laid to rest as the Nomads put together a good team performance to defeat Sunseekers by 30 runs at Barton. Skipper Hussein won the toss and batted first. 160 for 5 off 40 overs was slightly below par on a dry, fast outfield. The usual suspects scored solid contributions. Heslington 37, Fearon 36, Gardner 28 and Pinfield 23 assisted by 16 not out in calypso style by Hussein. After some handy catching practice before the match Fearon took a stunning catch off Forster to dismiss the dangerous Nicholls for 14 and Forster clean bowled Rout next ball but was denied the hat trick. All the Nomads bowlers chipped in (Fearon 2-18, Greaves 2-21, Heslington 2-22 and Forster 2-22) but the Nomads only started to look favourites after Fearon returned to the attack and had top scorer Bull (27) caught on the long on boundary by Forster. Heslington then cleaned up the tail in the next over to make it 6 wins and 6 defeats so far this season. |
18/8/00 - Fantasy League Week 16. This week our star pupil is Heslington with 395 while our duffer is Pinfield on 145. There was a wide spread this week but the points mainly going according to previous form. Full details. |
13/8/00 - Nomads win at Beaudesert Nomads avenged their earlier heavy defeat with a morale boosting 113 run victory at Rugeley Power Station. Vice captain Hoddy was skipper for the day and saw the Nomads post 205 for 5 off 40 overs. A confident 50 opening partnersip between Gardner and Heslington (8) was overshadowed by a scintillating 113 run partnership between Gardner (86) and Rob Allison who scored a classy 72. An understrength Beau had every chance of winning with Cowley (35) and T. Elson (31) batting well before Elson retired hurt. Beau then collapsed from 71-0 to 92 for 8 (Greaves 3-3, Rowland 3-11) to give the Nomads their fifth victory of the season by a comfortable 113 runs. |
11/8/00 - Fantasy League Week 15.This week's
Golden Goose has proved to be Akin - the only player to top 300, helped along by the
efforts of Stewart and Walsh. The Bernard Matthew's Award goes to Darren with a fairly
dismal 125. With the top three covered by only 278 points and Pinfield's famous Essex
openers Nurdle and Nudge in prime form (another 2nd place this week) much can still
happen. Full details.

6/8/00 - Nomads v Trentside cancelled. The game against Trentside was called off after both sides struggled to raise a team. |
4/8/00 - Fantasy League Week 14.Generally a low scoring week with only three players over the 200 mark, Pinfield top scored with 240. Full details. |
30/7/00 - Nomads twiddle their thumbs After the Tamworth game was called off, a hastily arranged fixture against Wishaw was also cancelled and the Nomads were left without a game on one of the sunniest Sundays of the year. |
28/7/00 - Fantasy League Week 13. A big scoring week with both Heslington and Evans snr over the 400 mark. Willis just missed the mark but maintains a small lead over the April Showers. Full details. |
23/7/00 - Nomads v Beaudesert. Nomads suffered a heavy defeat mainly thanks to Steve Gallier's impressive 177 not out and an unusually 'thin' bowling attack. Beaudesert 252 -1 (Gallier 177*, Cowley 53, Hemmings 1-31), Nomads 96 all out (Pinfield 20, S. Elson 4-18). |
21/7/00 - Fantasy League Week 12.Hurrah for Hussein! Helped by Stewart's England performances the Sheikh tops this weeks scorers, followed by Sardines and then a gaggle of players all around the mid 200 mark. Crofty's Finger seems to have got stuck in Derek Randall's Grin as they joint bottom scored and leaving Fearon rather adrift at the tail. Full details. |
16/7/00 - Barton v Nomads. Another hard fought draw. Barton 201 for 9 (Swannick 68, Asprey 49, Hoddy 4-38, Forster 3-53), Nomads 177 for 5 (Pinfield 36, S. George 1-18). |
14/7/00 - Fantasy League Week 11.A low scoring week,
this one. I was surprised to have top score with a mere 279. The post-Heslingtongate team
was second up on 270 and Martyn improved with 260. Still everything to play for as MERPs
meteoric rise to third proves.
PGW. Full details. |
9/7/00 - Bugbrooke v Nomads. Nomads travelled down to Northamptonshire and drew with Bugbrooke despite a heavy downpour midway through the game. Nomads 173 for 8 ( Heslington 61, Gardner 59, Gilthorpe 3-12), Bugbrooke 109 for 7 ( Street 42, Greaves 3-19, Heslington 3-38). |
7/7/00 - Fantasy League Week 10.Heavy points for MERP scoring over 400 this week with Martyn and the Sheikh also over 300. Full details. |
6/7/00 - Nomads fail to reach final. The Nomads were totally outplayed in their Mercury Cup semi-final clash away at Armitage. Armitage batted first and quickly stamped their authority on the contest. With some big hitting and the help of some hapless Nomads fielding, Armitage rattled up a mind-boggling 228 for 1 off only 15 (8 ball) overs. Nomads reached a respectable 81 for 2 in reply in murky conditions. Match Result : Nomads lost by 147 runs |
2/7/00 - Nomads on Cloud 9. A depleted Nomads team with only 9 men were saved by the rain or cruelly denied another match winning opportunity depending on your point of view. Woore batted first and some tidy bowling restricted Woore to only 168 from 40 overs when 200 seemed on the cards. Nomads reached 83 for 4 before the heavens opened and the game was abandoned with 12 overs to go. |
