Match report for the Club's Best Bowling Performance: M A Heslington 7-11
Nomads hit a victory
Lichfield Nomads v Sedgley Casuals
After their less than successful start to the season the Nomads revival continued with a comfortable win against Sedgley Casuals. Having won the toss and batted Sedgley were soon in trouble with R. Wenlock dismissed for a duck and M. Howells for two. A. George bowled with hostility, but was unlucky in gaining only a single wicket while Rowland had trouble with his line, but still bowled cheaply.
Heslington took an unnecessarily spectacular caught and bowled from his first ball. Having already set off for his bowling mark a hint from his captain led to a diving lunge, which broke the useful third wicket partnership, which had set 34 runs. From such comedy great performances often arise and an inspired Heslington striking exactly the correct line and length was rewarded with career and club, best figures of 7 - 11 including four clean bowled. Faced with such fierce bowling the Sedgley innings subsided to 91 all out only A. Wenksck (29) and G. Davis (25) making any sizeable contributions.
A slow and cautious start by the Nomad openers ended when Adam played on for 1. Gardner announced his presence at the wicket with a classical cover drive for four from his first ball and proceeded to flay some friendly Sedgley bowling. His fifty came in only 44 balls and included 4x 6 and 3 x 4 as Nomads cruised to a nine-wicket victory without benefit of the last 20 overs. Sercombe, although dropped on nought, continued his batting improvement and was 21 n.o. at the end.
