Nomads at the Test Match.
England versus West Indies at Old Trafford.
"West Indies controlled day three of the third
Test at Old Trafford but England were kept in the hunt by fourth-wicket
pair Graham Thorpe and Andrew Strauss.
The hosts trailed by 162 runs on 233-5 at stumps,
with Thorpe unbeaten on 89 and Strauss making 90.
They put on 177 together after England had slumped
to 40-3, but Dwayne Bravo put the Windies back on top with two late
wickets to return figures of 3-36.
The visitors earlier declared on 395-9 after
Carlton Baugh contributed 68.
They were a bowler short after Pedro Collins was
struck on the chin by an Andrew Flintoff bouncer earlier in the day."

After a poor Saturday, England fought back
to win the third test by 7 wickets after Robert Key 93* and Andy
Flintoff 57* steered England home to victory chasing 231. A record for
the side batting second at Old Trafford. 8 intrepid Nomads stopped over
(3 Nomads just went for the day) in Eccles (Over an hour away by
tram!) to make a night of it. The Lancashire wit was in evidence as Fuzz
was greeted by chants of 'The Ace of Spades' and Ray by a chorus of 'Hi
Ho's

Keith's 50th.
An impromptu invitation turned into a bit of a
session as a 'caravan' of Nomads descended on The Queen's Head to
celebrate Keith Greaves' 50th (a day early). The usual suspects of
Pinfield, Jennett, Willis, Gardner, Blackburn and Jennett were
supplemented by Fearon, Weir, Smith, Coleman, Greaves Jnr and Greaves
(Mrs) and at least two others I fail to recollect (Probably due to the
fact that the Suddaby's Golden Chance was very drinkable). Venice was
the official venue of the celebrations but the fixture secretary was
unable to secure a game through the MCC.
