Ice hockey is one of the world's best
sports. There's nothing like lacing up your skates, hitting the ice
and your opponent in an open ice collision. When you don't have the
talent and skill to play at the professional level, there's the option of
fantasy leagues. I started playing in a Strat-o-matic hockey league that my former roommate was in. I inherrited a second year expansion team and was in for an uphill stuggle for respect. In my third year, I turned the team around from a next to last place out of 20 teams to a second place division finish and home ice for the first round. My team was then booted in the first round by Paul Kariya, who in turn beat the top seeded team in the league. The following season saw my team capture its first divisional championship. Due to some trades, retired players and seeing some players having less than stellar NHL seasons, the team has begun to slide and has finished out of the playoffs in the past two seasons. But there are high expectations as the team's youth has begun to step up, led by goaltending sensation Mikka Kipprusoff. To see more about my team and the league I play in, check out the National Strat-o-matic Hockey League ( NSHL ). The league's entering its 9th season and doesn't show any signs of slowing. Because I love the game so much, I went out and joined a new league, the World Strat-o-matic Hockey League ( WSHL ). Though the league is new, the 14 team owners show signs of the same dedication that makes the NSHL a great fantasy hockey league. |
