Adriatico Street, Malate, Manila, PHILIPPINES Tel: (02) 522-2374 Affiliations: Federation International de Medicine Sporting (FIMS) Asian Federation of Sports Medicine (AFSM) Philippine Medical Association (PMA) History: The organization was pioneered in 1973 by five medical professionals, namely: Drs. Antonio Vergara (founding president), Placido Macaraeg, Tyrone Reyes, Jesus Ma. de Leon, and Gloria Roque. After 2 years (1975), the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) approved its incorporation. The succeeding years saw its growth in terms of membership, establishment of provincial chapters and sponsorship of postgraduate courses in Sports Medicine and Science. In May 1990, the 1st Annual Congress on Sports Science and Physical Fitness was successfuly held at the Philippine International Convention Center. Through the initiative of SMAP, the Philippine Center for Sports Medicine (PCSM) under the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) was created in 1991. The said center was equipped in time for the 11th Southeast Asian Games in Manila. A year later (1992), SMAP launched the 1st Outereach Program which signaled a wider participation in sports development. In 1996, the association hosted the 2nd Asian Congress of Sports Medicine in Manila, participated in by delegates from 46 nations. In the same year, the organization initiated the Basic Course in Sports Medicine (Module 1), which, 3 years later (1998) was followed by Module 2. Officers: President: Dr. Consuelo G.
