Played for the Canadians from 1923-24 to 1936-37
(except 1934-35).
Scored his first NHL goal against the Ottawa Senators on December 26, 1923.
Led the Canadians in Goal scoring for 8 straight seasons (1924-25 to 1931-32).
Led the NHL in points in two seasons and goal-scoring in three
Morenz becomes the first Montreal Canadian to win the Hart Trophy in April 1928.
Won the Hart in 1931 and 1932 also.
Scores 5 goals against the New York Americans on March 18, 1930
Morenz breaks his leg in a game against Chicago on January 28, 1937.
Dies from complications of the broken leg on March 8, 1937.
Many people say he died of a broken heart because he believed he would never recover well enough to play for Montreal again.
His funeral is held at the Monreal Forum and 15 000 people attend.
Elected to the NHL Hall of Fame in April 1945.
Voted the best hockey player of the first half century by hockey
writers in 1950.
Ranked as the 15th best player of All-Time by the Hockey News (1998).
