Bernie "Boom Boom" Geoffrion
Bernie earned his nickname by being the first player to use the
slap shot consistently.
Bernie won the Calder Trophy in 1952 for outstanding rookie.
Won his first Stanley Cup in 1952-53 as a member of the Habs
(vs Boston).
Led the NHL in scoring in 1955 with 75 points (1 point more than "The Rocket" and 2 more than Beliveau).
In 1960-61 Bernie was the second NHL player to score
50 goals in a season (Rocket was the first).
Bernie won the Art Ross Trophy, for the second time, in 1960-61 (95 points in 64 games).
Insisted that Doug Harvey cut a cast off his leg so he could play in the 1961 playoffs (vs Hawks).
Bernie also won the Hart Trophy in 1961 as League MVP (Runner-up was Johnny Bower).
Was a member of 5 Stanley Cup teams with the Montreal Canadiens.
Named to the NHL All-Star Team 3 times.
Bernie played in 11 NHL All-Star Games.
Played 16 seasons in the NHL (14 with the Habs and 2 with the Rangers).
Finished his career with 822 points in 883 games in the regular season.
Had 118 points in 132 career playoff games.
Inducted into the NHL Hall of Fame in 1972.
Ranked as the 42nd best NHL player of All-Time by the Hockey News (1998)
