I might go into some commentary here on Florida multi-sport events and promoters and I'll probably go on a soap box and rant against the drafting rule that is changing the face and the spirit of the professional sport. As an age-grouper, I have to take the TriFed's word that drafting will never be allowed in amateur competition but I fear that the camel's nose is under the tent.
The main lesson to be learned in amateur competition, I guess, is that many races do not have good course marshalling and that a lot of competitors will grab a draft off of anything that passes. If you know who the main competition in your age group is and if you usually pass that racer on your bike, be sure and pass carefully and fast; don't allow that racer to gain your wheel. That's about all you can do.
"nuff said for now...
Here's a short note - An under construction picture of the 1951 Willys Station Wagon that has replaced the Honda motorcycle that used to carry me to the races. After its first full year of continuing improvement I'm real happy with it. It has been to Virginia twice with side trips in Georgia and Tennessee (and it's about to go back again). It has also been all over Florida. Due to the Florida Duathlon Series, I'm sure the Willys knows the road to Miami well enough to drive itself! It is great to be able to carry more than one bike and have room to sleep inside instead of on the ground in a sleeping bag. I would have finished a lot better in the hilly triathlon at Clermont early in 1997 had I had a choice of bikes then.
