MEETING ACTIVITY

The season's meetings concluded with a wonderful B-B-Q held on June 6/99 at Vice Pres Bob's and Pat's place. The affair was a "pot luck" venue. One of the biggest problems with pot luck events is that everyone brings an item and you end up with a very large quantity of really good food and all those desserts! It is the season for rhubard. Guess how many desserts you can make with rhubarb? Each one is different and sooo tastey. The meetings will resume on September 15/99 at the same time and place. The feature rocks/items will be the things that the members picked on their USA trip this summer.

I came across a book review in the Feb Lapidary Journal which sounded very good. It is a book about AMMOLITE and written by Donna Barnson from Selkirk, Manitoba. According to the review the book contains wonderful photographs done by Donna's husband and Korite Ltd. In addition to the photos it is packed with information. Barnson, an accreditied gemologist gives the gemological properties essential to the understanding of the ammolite gem. She outlines the characteristics, rarity and secrets of working with ammolite. She covers such topics as creating stones using doublets, triplets and stabilization. If you wish to purchase a book at $14.95 plus S&H phone Donna at (204) 757 9129.
