Sunday 7th June 1998

Martina gained consolation for missing out of the singles crown, by winning the doubles crown here with Jana Novotna. They defeated Lindsay Davenport and Natasha Zvereva in straight sets. A 6-1 7-6 (7-4). Although there's no chance of Martina winning a singles 'Grand Slam', she is still on course for the Ladies Doubles 'Grand Slam', as Venus Williams and Justin Gimelstob are for the mixed doubles.

Friday 5th June 1998

Martina and Jana defeated Arantxa and Helena 7-5 7-6 (7-2) in their toughest match so far in this Championship. They will play Lindsay Davenport and Jana Novotna in the finals. (Interestingly enough, it was Lindsay and Natasha who Martina defeated in the final of the Australian Open, with Mirjana Lucic!)

Thursday 4th June 1998

Martina will have to wait yet another year to fulfill her dream of winning the French Open as she could not repeat her performance of beating Monica Seles in the semi-final. Martina went down 6-3 6-2, but at least she's still in the doubles.

Wednesday 3rd June 1998

Martina and Jana won a place in the doubles final with a 6-3 6-2 win over Conchita Martinez and Patricia Tarabini, the number nine seeds. They will play Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario and Helena Sukova, the number three seeds, in the semi's. (Both Arantxa and Helena being past partners of Martina, and Arantxa being an ex-partner of Jana also!)

Tuesday 2nd June 1998

Martina showed Venus who's boss with a straights sets demolition over her. A 6-3 6-4 win sets Martina up with a semi-final rematch against Monica Seles.

Monday 1st June 1998

Martina and Jana had yet another easy doubles match, with a straights sets win over Kristine Kunce and Corina Morariu. A 6-0 6-1 win books then a place in the quarter-final.

Saturday 31st May 1998

Martina defeated Anna Smashnova 6-1 6-2 today to move into the long awaited quarter-final clash with Venus Williams.

Saturday 30th May 1998

Martina and Jana move into the third round with an easy win over Janet Lee and Shi-Ting Wang, 6-0 6-2.

Friday 29th May 1998

Martina moves into the 4th round with an easy win over Karina Habsudova. A straight sets 6-3 6-2 win sets Martina up with a match against Anna Smashnova.

Martina partnered Jana Novotna, her proper partner, for the first time this season to overcome Rika Hiraki and Ann Wunderlich 6-1 6-0 in the first round of the Ladies Doubles.

Wednesday 27th May 1998

Martina defeated Meike Babel in less than an hour, winning 6-1 6-2 today. She is still heading towards a possible match-up with Venus Williams in the quarter final, as Venus also won her match, pretty easily actually!.

Monday 25th May 1998

Rolan Garros starts today, with Martina trying to capture the only Grand Slam which has eluded her so far in her professional career.

Martina breezed past her first round opponent, Maria Sanchez Lorenzo of Spain, winning 6-2 6-1.
