The game started very precautiously, Peru started to attack as a team, Paraguay waited in their field but with an intense and excellent pressing. Percy Olivares ran down the left side and made crosses, he was the best offensive weapon for Peru for most of the first half. Claudio Pizarro, in my conception, played a great game, although he did not scored a goal, he showed what he has learned in the Bundesliga with Werder Bremen. Claudio must have had at least 2 clear opportunites without striking once; although the World's Best Goalie Chilavert blocked everything. Nolberto Solano did not played well in the first half, but reinvindicated scoring on a penalty in the second half. Paraguay made few |

dangerous attacks coming from Roque Santa Cruz and Clarence Acuna. Oscar Ibanez, Peruvian goalkeeper made a great save when Acuna took a long shot which had the back of the net as it's destine. The first half ended 0-0 which i think reflected what went on the field. The fans supported and cheered for PERU, the y danced, jumped, fireworks began again as soon as the "Bicolor" step out on the grass for the second half. Earlier before the game, fireworks had explotaded in celebration of the game. Peruvian's Manager, Colombian-born Maturana did not make any changes. |
Paraguay did not make any changes either. The pressure was on Peru though. Paraguay came out differently, they wanted the game, there were a few attacks on Peru's net, but on a counterattack, Claudio Pizarro drove the left side of the penalty box, and got fouled by Caniza, the referee called it a penalty, by the way the referee was 100% bias in support for Paraguay, because he did not take any yellow cards to the Paraguayans. Anyhow, Nol Solano took the shot and scored GOOOOOLLLLL the Peruvian fans were happy. 2 minutes later Roberto Palacios took a splendid shot which left "Mr Proud" Chilavert looking doing nothing to stop the ball from going in GOOOOOOLLLLLLL another gift to Peru. Later Paraguay received a gift from the ref, a penalty, which Chilavert took, but failed to scored, because there was a better man under the posts, Oscar Ibanez. Paraguay then let it go, giving up the game, Peru danced the Paraguayans, Peruvian midfield took over, controlled the ball, the "OLE, OLE" from the stands was heard very loud, it was a party, it's soccer fever that surrounds the world, and on that night was living a precious moment in Lima, the Mexican wave came in to play, confetti, fireworks, and calls for "CHEMO, CHEMO," and "PERU,PERU" never stopped.....the game finished and a celebration outside the stadium began. The next opponent is Chile, in Santiago.; as a proud Peruvian I joined a support my team....i hope you too and i'll see you at the Bar to watch the next game...for now..your friend MIguel.
