"Mommy, God made grass and the ocean but where does sand come from?" the little girl asked her mother.
"Sweetie, let me tell you a story" replied her mother.
When God created the world, he felt there was no need for sand. Grass was softer to walk on, it tickled your feet and it was cooling to the touch. Grass was a wonderful entrance to the beautiful blue waters.
Many many years after the earth was created one small child sat in his room crying. He asked God why his mommy had to die and to help him feel better. God, hearing this child's cry and plea for help sent the boy a small gift with a note.
"Son, I understand how much you miss your mommy, but she is still within your heart and will always be with you. I have sent you a very special present I hope you will pass along to others when they are in need of help."
The boy opened the box and found it was full of sand. Puzzled by this strange gift from God, the boy prayed to God again asking him what he was to do with this gift.
One week later the small boy found a very large box of sand in his bedroom with another note.
"Son, take some of this sand and place it by the ocean and each time you are feeling upset or are worried about something put more sand there. When you see someone else upset or worried give them some of your sand and ask them to place it by the ocean."
The small boy didn't not understand why God asked him to do this, but he did. A few weeks later when the boy got in trouble with his dad and was upset he took more sand to the ocean. The boy was surprised to see the sand he placed there for his Mommy was gone.
When the boy returned home he prayed to God again asking where the sand he placed for his Mommy was.
God replied:
"Son, I asked you to place the sand by the ocean for a special reason. All your worries and upsets will be washed away by the ocean, so you will have no more pain or sorrow.
When you visit the ocean and see all the sand there, do not think of all the people with pain and sorrow, but think of all that I have washed away.
Son, remember it is just another grain of sand you are placing by the ocean and I will help you wash away the tears and pain."
