Out of Place

She seemed so out of place.
She far from fit her character.
Wandering through the halls,
She seemed lost.
Searching for but one person
Who understood her.
Her brown eyes scanned through the crowd.
Scanned past me,
And back.
Settling on me.
I was the “chosen one,”
It seemed.
She walked towards me,
More at ease because she had found me.
She blended in more.
Tension grew within me.
I started to back away.
Away from this out-of-place creature.
I could not get away.
I was being trapped.
She didn’t want me to get away,
So I couldn’t.
Now I felt out-of-place,
Being in her presence.
Panic spread over me.
She came so close,
Reaching out her hand.
She grabbed mine.
She wouldn’t let go,
And she shook it violently.
“No! Leave me alone!”
I thought to myself.
Then she spoke…
“Hi.  I’m Alyssa.
What’s your name?”
Relieved, I answered back.
