Who She Was

There was one person,
Who guided me through life.
Showed me through the friendships,
Put up with all my strife.

She never seemed to close her ears,
Or turn her back on me.
But still she gave her sound advice,
And waited patiently.

Our friendship still grew stronger,
Keeping pace with modern day.
She was always there for me,
When I would go astray.

I was there for her, too.
She said I knew just what to say.
I came to her with open arms,
When life veered the wrong way.

I was part of her soul,
And she was a part of me.
There was no way to escape it,
And that’s the way it would be.

Neither of us minded
Our fate being decided.
We shared in everything;
In the other we confided.

But this friend was unusual;
Not the usual kind.
It finally donned on me,
Who this was that I did find.

Hither to this day,
I knew not who she was; because
Her appearance showed a mother.
A friend is who she was.
