The Rescue by Kristin

<Chapter Four>

"Hi Kristin, this is Caryn Hayden and I was wondering where you are right now. You told me you would be home all tonight, and I wanted to talk to you about astudent that needs tutoring... please call me back at 727-3403. Thanks!"
I shivered when I heard that message on my answering machine. I had to think of something, an excuse for why I wasn't here.
I jumped  as I heard the familiar ring of the telephone. "Uh.. hello?"
"Hi! This is Caryn,  how are you doing, Kristin?" My heartbeat sped up, faster and faster.
"Uh... hi!  Um... I got your message..."
         "Where were you this afternoon?"
" I was.. um..." Smooth move Wilkinson, I said to myself. "I um.... I was actually in the shower when you called, um.. I was getting ready for a date with my boyfriend, uh... Paul, at um... the new steakhouse that opened nearby..."
"Oh, well that's great! Now, as I said in my message that this girl named Amy needed some tutoring..."
I collapsed into a chair after that phone call. She barely mentioned about me not being here this afternoon...and I got so worried!
Tobias came in and asked me, "What's up?" I explained to him what had happened and he breathed out a loong sigh. Not necessarily a sigh of relief.
"What am I going to do?!" I asked him "It would probably be better being a controller than having to worry about people I work with everyday hunting me down like a rabid dog. Like I said, what am I going to do?!"
Tobias looked at me, with a look in his eye similar to an adult's. A look that  had a message in it, a look that said, "Maybe things are bad, maybe things are horrible. But you have to live through it, without giving up."
I sat  down and decided it was time for a major "pick-me-upper."  "Hey, Tobias, want some ice cream with hot fudge & whipped cream?"
He looked over and  shook his head "no."
I made myself the biggest sundae ever known to man (or woman, for that matter), and ate it while watching The Sound Of Music, my favorite movie of all time.
I fell asleep on the couch listening to, "Edelweiss, edelweiss, you seem happy to meet me..." Captain Von Trapp droning on during the festival.
I woke up at about 8:30 later that night, and groggily got up. I pulled the couch out and it became a bed for Tobias.
I looked around the apartment, and couldn't find him. As I was about to panic, I saw a bird fly into the window. A hawk. With red tail feathers.
He demorphed, and I told him I'd be in bed, either watching TV, or sleeping. He went into my living room/dining room, and collapsed on the bed.
I climbed into my bed and fell asleep instantly. 1
