This page is a memorial to my child, Hailey. As well as a reminder to everyone. Sometimes we forget that we aren't invincible and go and do things that jeapordize others. Be safe.
Hailey was four years old when a teenager racing on a two lane 55 mph country road. He was going over eighty mph and was in the wrong lane as his racing friend was in the other lane. Clyde, at fifteen, had just recently recieved his learners permit for driving and was driving the vehicle. Elizabeth was in the passenger's side and Hailey was in the backseat and had unbuckled her seatbelt to pick up a doll she had dropped.
When Clyde saw what was happening, he swirved and hit a tree. It was lucky Clyde had been going below the speedlimit. Hailey would have survived if she'd had her seatbelt on, but if Clyde hadn't gone off the side of the road and had hit the boy headon, the boy in the other vehicle wouldn't have survived the collision. He didn't have his seatbelt on. Its likely Clyde nor Elizabeth would have either. Elizabeth was seven months pregnant with a child, and lost the baby. The doctors said she wouldn't be able to have another, we were blessed with Paul Aidan.
Crazy teen antics aren't just faults for driving fatalities. Accidents do happen, and can happen to anyone at any time. Wearing your seatbelt reduces the chance of fatalities in a car accident, because they keep you from going forward and hitting what's in front of you or from being thrown out of the vehicle, or from being trapped underneath a seat (yes, it happens). Drinking alcoholic beverages and smoking and some medicines reduce your reaction time and/or blurs your vision. Reaching down to change the music or air conditioning settings can cause accidents. It did with one of Cheltsie's friends. Be careful and safe. Think about what you're doing and watch everyone else.
People say that blessings are never realized until they're lost. Go give your family members a hug. Love them.
