I have a really great family. Come on in and meet them!
My mommy
is really special. She has the courage of a lion and the heart of pooh bear. Nothing scares my mommy, not even seeing me in the hospital with all kinds of tubes and tents. I have been in the hospital alot... 14 times to be exact, and not once have I ever seen her do anything but smile. She wasn't smiling because she was happy... just because she knew that I needed her to be strong, and that it made me smile when she did. I knew that she was scared, but you would never know it to look at her. But she could get really mean too... I have seen her chew out doctors who wouldn't listen to her. *smile* She would do anything for us kids... and has.
You see, when I was a little baby in New York, the doctors told mommy and daddy that if they didn't move us south that I wouldn't live to see my first birthday. So mommy and daddy left their parents and families behind and moved us to South Caroline to try to make my life a little easier. When we got there, daddy didn't have a job, but we had a place to live at. Daddy couldn't find a job, so mommy had to go to work, and when she got hurt, we just had to make due. Things were really tough for awhile, but we managed just fine. You see, nothing is more important than having love in your life. With love and faith anything is possible. Eventually, Daddy got a job driving a big truck, but that meant that he had to be away from home alot. Mommy cried herself to sleep at night, but never let us know how sad and upset she was. No matter what happened, mommy always smiled, and told us that God was watching over us and daddy.
Mommy is 31 years old, and has arthritis and lots of other problems because she got hit by a dump truck while she was riding her bicycle. But she never complains, even on the days that she has to sit in her wheelchair. (She doesn't like that thing one little bit). No matter how bad she hurts, she always is there with hugs, smiles and giggles.
She is a very special mommy and I am very lucky to have her. :o)
My Daddy
works at Walt Disney World in Florida. He too loves to smile and snuggle when we watch TV. Daddy and mommy have moved us 4 times to try to make me healthy. We moved from New York to South Carolina, then to Georgia and now we live in Florida. They have given up so much to make my life better, and I think that they are the best. If it wasn't for them fighting so hard for me, I wouldn't be here today. Daddy is kinda quiet, but he loves to read us stories and play games and help my brother and sister with their home work. He's never to busy to give us hugs and lots of love. We might not have all the toys in the world, or take all the expensive vacations, but that is ok because I would much rather have mommy and daddy home with me than have all that stuff. You can never get enough hugs and snuggles. Toys and vacations are nice too, but I like things just the way they are. :o)
Anika
is my older sister. She will be 10 in April, and she is really kewl. We play dolls, and she teaches me to read and helps me with my speech therapy and helps me with my counting. I miss her lots when she is at school, but when she gets home I give her big hugs and snuggles. She can be kinda bossy though... but that is ok. Most of the time she is yelling at me to get out of her room. I guess its because I like to get into her stuff. She tries to keep everything all nice and neat, but somehow I mess it all up. The thing I love the most about her is how she reads to me. She shows me what all the words are and what they sound like. We have lots of fun.
Christopher
Is my big brother. He will be 8 in June, and is my favorite video game partner. He helps me play the hard parts of Donkey Kong Country, and teaches me how to get through Super Mario World. We play together everyday after school. He can be a pain sometimes, like when he snatches the controllers out of my hands, but mommy doesn't let him get away with it. We play with his tonka trucks in the yard, and we ride bikes (he is the one who taught me how to make the pedals go). We do lots of stuff together, and he doesn't like anyone picking on me. He got in trouble at school because a big kid took my pooh bear backpack and wouldn't give it back. Well Bug told him to give it back or else, and when the kid pushed me down Bug slugged him and knocked out his tooth. The principal wasn't happy, but mommy was proud of him, because he stood up and protected me. Mommy explained to the principal that she wasn't going to punish Bug for sticking up for me, and he understood. Christopher didn't get into trouble for it. And that made me really happy... and proud to have him for a brother.
My family is the most important thing to me. And I am really important to them. I like having mommy home with me all day, and wouldn't want it any other way. Mommy says that kids need to have thier mommy's home with them, so that they can be sure that they are ok, and that they can always count on them to be there no matter what. She says that the fancy cars and vacations and toys don't make up for having mommy there, and that if more kids had their mommies home with them, the world would be a better place. She knows that sometimes you just can't stay home, but if you are working only because you think that money is the most important thing, then the kids are the ones who suffer. I can say this, My mommy has been there for every scraped knee, and every bad dream, and I don't ever want that to change. It means so much to have mommy there when I need her the most.
I know that not everyone has a family like me, which makes me feel really lucky. I know that God watches out for all of the little ones in the world, and their families. So if you have faith that everything will be ok.
