The new Soka Centre named An-Le Temple Building is a majestic 3-storey building located at 5, Tampines street 92.
The first storey houses SSA's Publication Department and the An-Le Temple. On the second storey is an auditorium with a seating capacity for some 500 people and a beautiful foyer that gives a breathtaking view of the centre's surrounding area. The Buddhist library is also located on this storey.
The third storey houses a large conference room, the Buddhist Philosophy Research Centre office, the Cultural Department and several prayer rooms. Carparking area is located at the basement.
Fronting the building are seven large ten-metre tall Raman columns and another four four-metre columns giving the building a sense of dignity and charm.
The Soka Kindergarten, relocated to its new permises at 7, Tampines street 92, was officialy opened on February 8.
Facilities at the kindergarten include four classrooms on the third storey, an auditorium on the second storey and a playground at the basement. The kindergarten is also equipped with a computer room, a library, a music room and a playroom on the second storey.
These well equipped amenities enable the dedicated and qualified staff of six teachers headed by the principal to provided the kindergarten's children with an invigorating and comprehensive Soka education programme.
SSA Intiates Significant Community Service Project for Senior Citizens in Singapore
SSA created a historical milestone in its community service with the launching of the Soka Day Education and Activity Programme (DEA) for senior citizens on February 8.
The programme aims to enable the elderly to achieve emotional and social independence and thereby allow them to live healthy and enriching lives. It comprises meaningful daytime education courses, recreational and therapeutic activities which will provide them with the necessary social and living skills for coping with old age.
Launched by Dr Aline Wong, the Senior Minister of State for Health and Education, the DEA programme is the first attempt at a programme of this nature by a voluntary organization. It seeks to meet the needs of an increasing aging population that is more educated and socially active, and whose enthusiasm for learning and life remain undiminished with old age.
Initiated and run by SSA, the programme is non-religious in nature and is opened to senior citizens of all races who are healthy and mobile. The first batch is expected to start classes at the end of March.
The programme is run by a management committee of SSA volunteers comprising of medical doctors, practitioners in nursing, physiotheraphy and occupational therapy fields and headed by Dr Pradit Yeoh as the Chairman. It is also administered by a full-time social worker staff and is supported by a pool of volunteers from SSA.
The DEA programme received coverage in both the English and Chinese news programme on television and was also published in The Straits Times, Lian He Zao Pao an dLain He Wan Pao.
Since its launch, the programme has received very enthusiatic response. Many enquiries and applications have been received from members of the public staying as far as Yishun and Queenstown.
What the programme offers.....
The programme will be conducted for a duration of three weeks at the premises of Singapore Soka Culture Centre from Monday to Friday, 1.00pm to 4.00pm. Upon completion, another group will be enrolled for the next class.
The DEA programme includes health screening, group sharing sessions, talks on family life education, health care and other issues related to old age, social recreational and cultural activities, and occupational therapy. Follow-up befriender services will also be extended to those who complete the course.
The programme fee is $120.00. Those with fincial difficulties will be considered on a case by case basis.
Who is eligible...
Applicants should:
1. Be Singapore citizens and permanent residents, of any race or religion.
2. Be at least 55 years old.
3. Be ambulant.
4. Not be suffering from indectious diseases or psychiatric disorder.
5. Not be requiring intensive medical and nursing care.
6. Not be incontinent.
