Guidance Today

23 April : It is in the course of our earnest personal struggles that we build a glorious palace of good fortune that survives throughout the past, present and future. You must not permit yourself to destroy that castle through foolish carelessness. Nichiren Daishonin admonishes, "Strengthen your faith day by day and month after month. Should you slacken even a bit, demons will take advantage."

30 April : In buddhism there is a term called Kisha, which means "to give gladly." The word "gladly" is very important. It describes the spirit which is necessary to further develop one's state of Buddhahood, and the spirit which fills one's life with and inexhaustible wellspring of happiness and fortune and a boundless sea of benefit.

5 May : What seems like misfortune can be an opportunity. Wherever we find ourselves, we are in the Land of Eternally Tranquil Light. Complaining does not help. Whining does not produce anything of benefit. When faced with trouble, the way to rouse one's courage is to think positively. If one sets a positive goal -- to learn something new, to regain one's health, to live a richer life -- courage, hope and wisdom will well forth to meet the challenge.

7 May : The question is whether or not prayer is at the basis of your action. Both a sense of responsibility and compassion are manifested in prayer. Action without prayer is nothing but an artifice.

9 May : The Daishonin's Buddhism is the great teaching for "securing the peace of the land." As the number of people who chant the Mystic Law increases, that country and society will naturally be led on a rhythm towards prosperity. There can be no greater and more lasting contribution to the people than this.

10 May : Compassion is the very soul of Buddhism. To pray for others, making their problems and anguish our own; to embrace those who are suffering, becoming their greatest ally; to continue giving them our support and encouragement until they become truely happy -- it is in such humanistic actions that the Daishonin's Buddhism lives and breathes.

13 May : If you practise faith yet have an attitude of complaint, you will destroy your good fortune in direct proportion. Those who are full of complaint are not respected by others. From both Buddhist and secular perspectives, their behaviour does not befit a wise, or "worthy" person. Everything is determined by oneself, by one's ichinen, or inner resolution.
