Mommy got up at 6:00 A.M. because she couldn't sleep. We guess it was because she was really excited at what was going to happen by the end of the day? Anyway, mommy called the labor and delivery unit to find out what time all of us were supposed to be there. As you know mommy had to have help getting her labor started. They told her to call back a little later because they did not have all the orders from the doctors yet.
At around 8:30 Melissa, a nurse from the L&D called mom and talk to her for a while, then she asked mom if she was ready to come in. Mommy of course said yes, and after a brief stop at McDonalds Mommy, Daddy, and our cousin Theresa were on our way to the University of Michigan Hospital Labor and Delivery 4th floor.
Arriving at 10:00 at the hospital mom was getting a little nervous but excited all at the same time. We were meet at the floor by a nurse named Sheila, and taken to room #5, which by chance was the very first room that mommy was in when we tried to make our appearance at 28 weeks old. After mommy got settled Sheila came back in and hooked up monitors to mommy's belly to hear our heartbeats and see if mommy was having any contractions. Mommy then meet Melissa, the other nurse that was going to take care of her for a while. They were both super nice to mommy and answered all of her questions, (no matter how stupid they sounded)
Doctor Binno then came in to check on mommy about 11:45A.M. She decided that it was time to get things going, so at 11:50 she asked the nurse to give mommy something called Potosin. Then at 12 noon she decided lets really get things going and broke mommy's water. About that time Mommy and daddy meet a 3rd year med student named Carlos Hernandez. He was over seeing things before mommy's doctor: Doctor Van De Ven got there.
At 12:45 Mommy was ready for an epidural. That is when Chrys, Jason, and Doctor Naughton came in. They were all part of the team that was going to give mommy her epidural. Jason was the one that did the procedure. As mommy was getting this done is when Doctor Van De Ven came in to see how she was doing. When Jason was completely done mommy was feeling no pain at all.
About 1:30 our grandma and grandpa Philp, Aunt Nancy, and cousin Gennie got to the hospital. They are all from Daddies side of the family. They all came down from Port Huron to be here when we were born. Daddy was really happy that they could be there.
At 2:45 Doctor Binno came back in because mommy was having some pain. Daddy had when down to the Gift Shop to get us some thing and wasn't there for this check. After checking mommy she found out that it was time to move mommy to the O.R. for the delivery of us. Daddy was coming down the hall when everyone told him it was time to go. So at 2:50 P.M. we were all on our way to the O.R. Once we all got to the O.R. mommy was ready to get started so at 2:59 P.M. Zachary David was born weighing 4 lbs. 10 oz. and was 19 in. long. Then once Zack was out Katie decided to turn sideways in Mommies belly, which made for a problem. Doctor Binno couldn't move Katie around enough to have her delivered naturally, so they decided to do a c-section, but not before Doctor Van De Van took over and tried to get Katie out. What ever he did worked and Kaitlyn ReAnne was born at 3:09 P.M. weighing 4 lbs. 14 oz. and was 19 in. long.
At 3:20 a nurse told everyone waiting in mommy's room that we were here and everyone was fine. Mommy got to hold both of us after the doctors checked us both out and we were doing fine. Zack's apgar score was a 9 then 9 again. Katie's was a 6 then a 9 which considering the hard time she had was a good score.
At 3:45 we all we headed back to mommies room for get settled in and meet everyone. Everyone was so happy that we were all happy and healthy. Then came the time to tell the family our names. We were officially introduced Zachary David Philp and Kaitlyn ReAnne Philp. Everyone was surprised because only a couple of people knew our names before we came into the world. Grandpa Philp was surprised because Zack got his middle name after him.
We all meet our nurse for the night. Her name was Char and mommy and daddy really liked her alot.
After all the excitement settled down everyone except daddy left. Now was the time that mommy and daddy could finally relax and enjoy our new family.
It was a hard day but we all made it thru it!!
