What we did Sept 99 - June 2000r

Wed. September 15th 6:00 p.m. Registration Night.

We registered 30 Brownies!

Mon. Sept. 20th Brownie Motto – We discussed our Brownie Meeting Rules and learned our reminder song to help us remember what to bring and do at Brownies every week.

We made a scarecrow to hang on our door and took home a scarecrow lend a hand chart to help us lend a hand.

We played Motto songs & games.

Our second year Brownies discussed Circle Leader/Seconder roles.

SLEEPOVER: We had parachute and juggling activities, games, crafts and a campfire.

It was great getting to know one another.

Mon Sept 27th Church was closed. No Brownies
Mon Oct 4th Brownie Law – 1st year Brownies learned about the Law.

2nd year Brownies voted on Circle Leaders & Seconders.

We played our popular

"What's Our Law Wise Owl?" Game. (See Games section for instructions)

Tues, Oct 12th We had a huge Campfire night with Sparks, Brownies, Guides,

Pathfiders and Rangers. The Senior girls

told us all about their trip to Manitoba and showed us their slide show.

Sat. Oct. 16 RBG Trip!

Our GradeTwo Brownies earned their Outdoor Adventure Outlook. The

Grade Three Brownies earned their Water Outlook.

We had fun and later roasted hot dogs & marshmallows.

Monday Oct 18 We Found Out Who Was In What Circle

and learned our Circle Songs. We made shrink art circle bracelets.

1st Year Brownies learned to tie their tie.

2nd Year Brownies planned Halloween Party.

 
Monday Oct. 25

We had our Halloween Party. Treats were

provided by the 2nd year Brownies. One of the favourite

games was the witches' wart game. Girls chewed bubblegum

and then were blindfolded. They tried to get the gum

on the witches' nose. We used gloves so we didn't spread germs.

We made a 'BOO' fridge magnet out of recycled materials.

Mon Nov 1st
1st Year Brownies learned the Sign & Handshake and we did dance and action songs to reinforce

it. They also make their enrolment cards and addressed them to their parent(s) as part

of their Communication Outlook. Then we took a walk to a neighbourhood mail box and

mailed them! 2nd year Brownies made Circle banners to give the new Brownies at enrolment.

November 6 (SAT) We joined the Hamilton Area's free multi-branch swim at Huntington Park.
Monday, Nov. 8 1st year Brownies made a promise book and discussed our Brownie Promise.

Second year Brownies laminated their banners. We all practiced for the enrolment

and then discussed cookie selling safety, watched the Cookie video and played our

popular "Cookie Monster Game"

Fri Nov 12-Sat Nov 13 BROWNIES WERE BUSY LENDING A HAND SELLING COOKIES for our group, DOOR TO DOOR

AND AT LIMERIDGE MALL.

Mon. Nov. 15
Enrollment Night. Our new girls became "Real Brownies" and treats were supplied by Brownies being enrolled. Our Parent Committee served tea/coffee/juice. Outlooks& enrolment pins were given out to new Brownies.
Sat. Nov. 20 We sold cookies at White Rose and sold out!  
Mon Nov 22 We were lending a hand by making candy cane treats for the Christmas Lift Program.
Mon. Nov. 29 We had a TEDDY BEAR Party. Brownies brought in a teddy for a local charity and wore

something with a teddy bear on it. We had Teddy Crafts, Games, Songs & Treats!

 
Mon. Dec. 6 We learned how Brownies around the world celebrate the holidays

and talked about our family traditions. We learned how to say Hello in three

languages too. Brownies who wished to be tested for outlooks were.

 
Mon Dec 13 We had fun making Holiday crafts and received our outlooks.  
Mon Dec. 20 We had our Holiday Party. Brownies heard the story of the Christmas Scout and we

played games. One of the favourite games was "Turn

Your Leader Into Santa, a relay game where each circle had to run up and

put a cotton ball (with tape) onto the face of their Leader. Then they ran

back and the next Brownie in the circle ran up and did the same. The Circle

that gave their Leader the fullest beard was the winner.

Mon Jan 3

Circles created new styles & trends for the New Year! One Circle was challenged to come

up with a new style that would be popular in the new year. Another was challenged to

created a new food and another to create a new "girl band" that would be popular. Lots

of fun. We were tested on Outlooks and learned a New Year's song & dance. We made a New Year

camp hat pin.

Mon. Jan 10 We began our Heritage Outlook by bringing in a baby picture and

sharing family stories.

 
Sat. Jan 15

 

Brownies are PROUD TO BE CANADIAN.

We finished our Heritage Outlook at the Children's Museaum. We had

lots of fun learning about Canada. Later we played games in the snow outside

then came in for lunch and took a Canada quiz.

 
Mon. Jan 17 We had Bob the Beaver visit and taught him what we learned about

Canada on our trip. We learned about how to treat our flag and made a

Beaver puppet and optical illusion flag. We also caught up on any program

work we've missed.

 
Mon. Jan 24 We started our healthy lifestyle outlook by making posters and showed our

Outlook work we'd worked on over the holidays.

 
Mon. Jan 31 We worked on first aid.  
Sat. Feb 12
  We joined other Sparks, Brownies, Guides, Pathfinders and Rangers at the Hamilton Area multi-branch skate at Lawfield Arena!
 
SUN. FEB 20 We took part in a SPECIAL THINKING DAY SERVICE. We acted out Lady Baden Powell's last Thinking Day Speech. At the end of it we had surrounded the congregation waving flags from all over the world. Then we sang "It's a Small World"

with Guiding verses. Afterwards we enjoyed refreshments together.

 
Mon. Feb 21 Grade Three Brownies joined Lawfield for a Birthday

Party celebration where they had lots of fun learning about Guides.

Grade Two Brownies brought a friend to Brownies to join in our

own Birthday Celebration. We collected coloured crepe paper to

represent all the colours of Guiding as we learned about each one

and then attached them to a clothespeg. Then we did

a ribbon dance to the music "We are Family". Afterwards we enjoyed a

birthday cake after we sang "We've come to celebrate" and "Happy

thinking day songs". (see song section for words).

 
Tues. Feb 22 Thinking Day: We proudly wore our Uniforms to School & Work to show

We rememberd our sisters around the world

and our founders Lord & Lady Baden Powell.

 
Feb 28 Grade 3 Brownies visited a local Fire Station to learn about Fire Safety.

Our Grade 2's worked on their Food Fun Outlook and had lots of fun making

yummy creations.

 
March 17-19 MULTI-BRANCH CAMP.

We camped indoors at Apps Mills with another Brownie group, Girl Guides, Pathfinders and Rangers! There were 80 of us in attendance. We had lots of fun and can't wait to do it again!

 
April 3 Grade 2's learned about growing things and planted flowers.

Grade 3's discovered the arts by learning about Brian Darcy and discovered careers

by talking about the different ones in the arts.

Then we played games & sang songs.

 
April 8-9 GUIDING "REACH FOR THE STARS"

We enjoyed the experience of a lifetime. We slept over at the Sky Dome in Toronto to celebrate the year 2000 in Guiding. Groups from all over Ontario were there! The events were incredible....from popular pop bands to 30 foot snakes, to rock climbing, to hot air balloon rides. Sleeping on the turf with over 5,000 other people was unbelievable and surprizingly quiet. Girls and leaders left with a memory they'll never forget! A HUGE THANK YOU TO THE ORGANIZERS FOR AN EVENT MORE THEN WELL DONE!!!

 
April 17 We worked on decorations for our parent banquet and then joined

the Sparks upstairs who were having a special police woman and her

dog visit.

 
May 1 Our grade 2 Brownies worked on cards to give the grade 3's when they

advance to girl guides.

Our grade 3 Brownies talked about going to Guides and their feelings

around it.

We played games and sang songs too!

 
May 5-7 Cookie Campaign: We sold 115 cases = 1,380 boxes of cookies.

WOW. On Saturday night after working so hard selling cookies we celebrated. Our parent committee

organized a parent-daughter swim, banquet & Karoke. We relaxed in a pool rented

just for us. Then we enjoyed the great food. Afterwards the girls took turns doing

Karoke. Even the leaders and a couple of dads joined in. The Leaders were surprized

by thank you gifts from the parents and girls.

 
May 8 Grade 2's made invitations to give the Sparks to come visit.

Grade 3's visited with a girl guide and

her Leader to find out more about going to Guides.

 
May 15th Grade Two Brownies taught Sparks about the Fun & Adventure

in Brownies. The Sparks

had a great time and can't wait to become Brownies! Good job girls!

Grade Three Brownies didn't come because they were visiting the Eastmount Guides

on Tuesday to find out about their Girl Guide Unit. They had fun learning some Guide

games & songs.

 
May 24 Grade two Brownies helped Sparkle Up the Sparks who

were advancing to Brownies.

 
May 27 Annual Hamilton Parade

This year we went with a Canada Theme. All girls waved Canada

flags and we carried a banner that said "90 YEARS IN CANADA AND STILL

GOING STRONG". After the parade we joined Sparks, Guides, Rangers, Pathfinders

and Leaders for a wonderful lunch. Afterwards girls danced and played to music

of their choice and had fun just being together in Guiding.

 
May 29 We practiced for the advancement to Guides next week and then

had lots of fun playing water games with the Rangers. Afterwards

we treated ourselves to make your own sundaes.....YUM!

 
June 5 We had our year end celebration and advancement. Each girl advancing came

up while a leader told the audience something about her accomplishments

and character. The younger Brownies presented them with the cards they

had made them and then they went through the Brownie Arch to the land

of Girl Guides. Later we had refreshments and dancing.

 
June 23-25 We held our Mom & Me Camp which was a blast!
