We worry about our children, and we know most of the dangers. Sometimes we need reminders, sometimes it's a little known fact that you stumble upon that can save a child.

Did you know:

  • A young child can DIE from eating one cigarette

  • The major cause of accidental poisonings is the improper use of medications. In fact, 40 % of poisonings are attributed to misuse of medication.
  • Other Common Causes of Poisoning

  • 1 in 3-4 girls, and 1 in 6-8 boys are sexually assaulted before age 18

  • 89% of child sexual assault cases involved persons known to the child.

  • 250,000-500,000 pedophiles reside in the United States

  • 1 in 4 victims of violent crimes are between the ages of 12-17.

  • 200-300 children are kidnapped by strangers each year.

  • Houshold Toxins Safety:

Store household cleaners, cosmetics, medicines, insecticides and garage products out of children’s sight and reach-in locked cabinets or cabinets secured with safety latches. Ask your pharmacist to put all prescription drugs in child-resistant packaging. However, be aware that children can open these containers. NEVER reuse empty household containers. DON’T follow antidote instructions on product labels without first contacting the Poison Control Center. NEVER call medicine candy. NEVER allow children to play with medicine bottles. DON’T take medicines in front of children who tend to imitate adults. Discard all old and unlabeled medicines by flushing them down the toilet. Store food away from household cleaners.

Other common causes of poisonings are:

    Chemicals 24%

    Cleaning agents 13%
