It has been almost a year since our last update during which quite a lot has happened, and so we think it is a good idea to spill the beans sooner rather than later.
To our dear friends around the world,
Here are some of our snapshots in the past 12 months.
Iggy has completed his first year in Wah Yan College Hong Kong, which is one of the few non-private schools that use English as the teaching medium. Given that many of the school's alumni are prominently situated in the Hong Kong society, it may be seen as a bit of an elitist establishment. However, owing to its association with the Society of Jesus, the quality of education (both academic and moral) has been proven to be of a high standard. This can be testified by its past students including Iggy's grandfather, uncle Eric, godfather Henry, Danny himself, etc.
These days Iggy enjoys quite a full school life loaded with many extra-cirricular activities. He has moved from cub scout to boy scout. His current main musical instrument is the violin, which he passed ABRSM grade 5 last winter. He takes his lessons with the IMTS and plays in two orchestras (the school orchestra and the IMTS string orchestra), as well as singing in the Catholic choir. He even managed weekly swimming training in the winter term and badminton training in the summer term.
As for little Chris, he is really in his elements whenever sports are concerned. Just before Christmas, he was one of the representatives of his primary school PUAWYPS in the Eastern District inter-school swimming gala, and picked up a gold medal. Since last summer, Chris is into water sports such as canoeing.
As a primary 4 pupil, Chris took part in the schools sports day for the first time. He participated in two events: the 60m dash and a parent-children relay. Unsurprisingly, he got gold for both events. Chris has also been receiving basketball training from the Hong Kong Basketball Association in the Junior Basketball Training Program, which he successfully completed the first two stages and won a bronze medal in the 2007-08 inter-regional tournament.
Chris has taken up Chinese flute last winter with the IMTS. It was a bit of an experiment because his breath control needs a fair bit of training and his finger tips are on the small side. Apart from the Chinese flute, Chris is also learning the piano, and later in the year he should be taking the grade 4 examination. Like last year, Chris also entered into the Schools Music Festival (Grade 3 piano), but due to a local flu outbreak, the event of was unfortunately cancelled.
On the religious side, Chris has undergone training and received his first Holy Communion with his classmates last May. For the last few years, we have been attending Sunday mass at Wah Yan College and, consequently, brushing shoulders with alumni local politicians such as Donald Tsang, Martin Lee, etc.
Following his brother's footstep, Chris has also joined up the cub scout at school.
Fionne has now diverted much of her attention to Chris in anticipation of his series of examinations to qualify for a place to join Iggy in Wah Yan College. The series of three examinations will start in June 2009. With Iggy growing into adolescence, the rebellious tendancies have begun to pose the occasional problems. It was natural for Danny to take off some of Fionne's load to manage this little young man.
Danny has settled in his new job at Future Waves and continued applying his knowledge and expertise on the innovative end of engineering. In the new job, he has already added one patent application to his collection.
Danny plays in charity band as both keyboard player and electronic percussionist. It has been quite a busy season with more than 10 shows at old people's homes, hospitals and various gatherings of voluntary workers.
