Part of the purpose of the Smokies trip was to collect and count different
kinds of salamanders. P. jordani and P. glutinosis were what we were looking
for. We studied their territories with respect to altitude. The study was
started in the middle of this century by the classic ecologist, Hairston.
Today, the biol 591 class at Purdue and a similar class at UNC still collect
the same data and make the comparisons, adding to the study each time.
