CAMP CRAFT IDEAS

Owl Pin

Use long narrow oblong-shaped pine cones (body) and cut a piece of felt in
the shape of an elongated triangle (kite-shaped).  The long point of the
felt will extend a little past the long point of the cone when glued on.
Bring the top point of the felt over the cone about 1/3 of the way and glue
into place.  The two side points of the felt will be the owl's ears.  Glue
on two googly eyes onto the felt/cone and glue on a piece of orange felt
for a beak.  Also glue a twig to the bottom so the owl has something to
rest on.  Makes a lovely pin.

Snowy Owl

Use large round cones that have a flat bottom that sits well.  Using
polyester fiberfill or cotton batting, pull and fluff the cotton to catch
onto the cone "leaves" until the cone now looks "snowy".  Glue on felt
ears, yellow felt ovals with googly eyes and a felt beak.

Lashed Frame

Choose 4 pieces of dry wood approx. the same length.  Lash together into a
frame.  Use string/cord or colored wool.  Decorate with nature materials.
The frame can be used to hold a picture (tack or glue into place) or you
can weave a spider's web using black floss.  Fresh grapevine wrapped around
the frame looks lovely when it dries.  Great gift idea.

Nature Creature

Using all sorts of bits and pieces from nature (seed pods, twigs, dried
flower heads, cone leaves, leaves, dried berries, etc) create a creature on
cardboard.  Glue in place.  If not too bulky, can be laminated for a real
keepsake.  Also can be used to fit into a lashed frame.

Branch Weaving

Choose a twiggy branch and begin weaving in and out and around using
various colors/thicknesses of wool, ribbon, and cord.  Add nature materials
to your creation.
This is only a sampling of ideas for camp crafts.  Collect shoe boxes and
make dioramas....turn the box on it's side and make a 3-D picture using
supplies available.  Or  cut a small square out of one end and tape clear
plastic wrap to create a viewing window.  All these crafts allow the
children (and adults) to use their imagination and explore their
creativity.  Part of the fun is going on a nature ramble to collect the
items required for the crafts!
