Color Weave Projects

Basic Supplies for Magnet Art: Materials for Kite Magnet: Directions for Kite Magnet:
  1. Cut a diamond shape from plastic canvas, 3" on all sides.
  2. Thread the needle with blue yarn and weave the yarn through the canvas holes, starting at the outer edge. Start with two rows of blue around the outer edge of the diamond and work toward the center. Leave 8" tails at the bottom corner.
  3. Next, weave 2 rows of red, leaving 8" tails at the bottom.
  4. Alternate 2 rows of blue and 2 rows of red yarn until the kite is filled in. Tie off yarn on the back of the canvas for the last 6 rows instead of leaving tails.
  5. Braid the tails of the first 6 rows together.
  6. Cut four 6" pieces of blue picot ribbon and tie them around the tail from top to bottom.
  7. Glue the magnet to the back of the kite.
Materials for Rainbow Magnet: Directions for Rainbow Magnet:
  1. Cut the circle in half, then cut out the center to make a rainbow shape.
  2. Weave the red ribbon in the top 2 rows of the rainbow, leaving a 4" tail at each end.
  3. Weave a row of each of the remaining colors, leaving 4" tails at the ends.
  4. Slip a bead over each of the tails and tie a knot in the ribbon to hold the bead on. Alternate lengths and bead colors.
  5. Glue the magnet to the back.
Materials for Cross Magnet: Directions for Cross Magnet:
  1. Using the pattern as a guide, cut the cross shape from the plastic canvas.
  2. Secure the ribbon to the top square. Thread down to bottom square over front of cross. (This is one long stitch.) Continue at the second top row of squares on one side. Thread down diagonally to the bottom second row to the opposite side. Continue weaving diagonally and from side to side until all holes are covered.
  3. Gather the ribbons in the center by crisscrossing. (See Diagram A.) Secure with glue.
  4. Glue magnet to back side.
